Check your end of offer date

Options
Hi everyone, hope all is well with you fellow money savers.

I just checked my credit card (marks and spencer) and found the date on the low rate expired a few days ago, so I am in time to do some serious tarting without getting hit too hard. Of a total balance of £3800, of which £1200 is at 3.9% apr for life of balance, the other £2800 was going to now be charged at 18% !!!

Well, the first thing I did was log onto the site and see what life of balance transfers are up for grabs just now and found the goldfish one at 3.9% apr till july 2010. So, I imediately applied for one on line and I am now waiting for the results of said application to come through.

It just shows that paying attention beats the hell out if the lousy saturday night tv we get these days....

Good luck with the Goldfish application. Lets hope the interest charged over the next month or so (on the £2,800 [or is it £2,600?] M&S purchase balance) isn't significant.

BTW, I assume you're hoping to settle the M&S card in full, because if you don't, won't any partial payment to Goldfish repay your 3.9% LOB balance before the 18% purchase balance?

barron hard up, you needn't have been 'hit' at all if you had used the automatic notification system on this website. All you have to do is enter in the expiry date of your current credit card deal & you will get a reminder 6 weeks prior to that date. That gives you plenty of time to search & apply for a new deal. The system can also be used to remind you when your car tax/ insurance etc expires.

Why is only part of the balance LOB, did you fall for the 12 months 0% on purchases ? this means you have effectively lost the balance deal because any payment will be at the higher rate first.

Try use one card for 1 use only, get a citi 5.8% LOB can move it all there, get another card to spend on.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

  • I have 3.9% for life of balance on just over £1000 on the m&s card, so although it is the same rate, I can leave it there for ever and not have to worry about tarting. I only just found out about the expiry date remainder, but luckily I haven't taken a hit with high interest on the M&S card. So, all in all, it suits me very well.
