This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Good morning chums
Yuk dont like this time on a Saturday. Have to leave soon for a short course just outside Birmingham. It was a last minute booking and quite nice as ii will likely be back home by midday so can carry on with my usual Sat
Least all the ice has gone ...now its just raining which I can handle.
Yesterday was a very long but a very enjoyable work day. Sadly didnt get time to play on the machines so no lucky 2p drops for me. The training room was up 4 sets of stairs which nearly killed me ...really struck me how unfit I am now so thats something I need to address
Woke up in the middle of the night with the most excruciating cramp in my leg ...think I'm falling apart
This afternoon I may do some housey stuff or I may just have the rest of the day off...place your bets now as to which one I choose  Food wise I have a sandwich to take this morning then tonight I am really looking forward to my Moules Mariniere ...Asda are arriving later with the few bits i need to make it like shallots crusty bread cream and wine ...very much looking forward to it... the mussels look gorgeous...wont mind any left overs today for sure
Time to hit the road hope you all have a chilled Saturday :A

Good morning everyone :hello:
Thank you Nelski for starting us off, hope your course goes well. By the way, I vote for having the rest of the day off
.
Another rubbish night but I am getting used to them now and I don't mind so much now I can rest during the day. It feels a bit lonely in the middle of the night though especially when you can hear the snoring of others.
Steve is on domestics today and we have a full freezer drawer of meat from musclefood to choose from. I am free and easy as to what we will have, just very grateful someone else is doing the cooking. Tomorrow we are having a leg of lamb which is my favourite so I am especially looking forward to that.
My family continue to torture me
, Lilly decided to bake some coconut and chocolate cookies last night. Hopefully they will all be scoffed today and not hanging around. To be honest, she is not the best cook and there was evidence that the cookies had been welded onto the baking sheet
. Oh well, I refuse to buy junk food any more so if they are desperate enough to bake then I don't really mind....and the ingredients are going to run out fairly soon too :rotfl::rotfl:.
The dogs are going to have a bath and get their bedding washed today so they will be nice and fragrant rather than the stinky pups they are now. I think Steve is planning on taking them for a nice long walk too provided the weather cooperates. I still have loads of laundry to do as well so I will be busy sorting it out and putting it all away.
Well, I hope you all have a great weekend whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning NELSKI and those who follow. I have serious mussel envy - are you making enough for two by any chance!!
We had another snowfall last night that meant business. It left us with a good covering which is still with us this morning. I had intended getting the bus to Ilkley but I daren't even attempt going down the snow covered steps to get down to our road! When did I become such a wimp! I'll re-assess when it's daylight.
The shooting pains have gone from my hip but the hip is still making it's presence felt when I bend or go up/down the stairs. (No NAN you didn't pass it on i've had this bother for years!)
AOD thanks for that. At least I know it's not just me and there is hope my love of books will return. I have a friend who has sleep problems and she says, from where she lives, it's surprising just how many lights she can see on through the night. Insomnia is obviously a widespread problem.
DUMPLING well done you. I can feel your determination now to lose weight. OL I really hope Prodigal can get his act together this time and gets the flat. It will be one less worry for you.
Another coffee calls and come daylight I will assess the hazardous step situation. Panto season finishes tomorrow and I want to get well done cards and a little momento for the DGDs. Ilkley has a much better shop selection than we have, that's the reason I planned on going there.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the sad, worried, poorly or lonely. Especially those undergoing/awaiting treatment. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread Nelski. I hope your journey is uneventful, I don't think you'll find much snow in Birmingham, it tried last night but didn't settle and although it is damp this morning, nothing is falling from the skies so far.
Dumpling I sometimes get subjected to a similar torture. My DS sometimes gets an urge for midnight baking and he's goid but eek the mess. Even when he thinks he's cleared up, the reality is otherwise.
Not a great lit happening here today - OH will go hunter-gathering at Morries when he gets up, he will cook today and I'll do Sunday cooking. I'm finishing a hat and mitts for a friend, just on second mitt now. I had to frog the first one as she has list a massive amount of weight and her wrists are no longer tge size they were. However much weight I might lose though, my wrists stay the same, I have big hands and wrists with a huge bone in each wrist, I don't think I've ever been a delicate little flower. At my thinnest, many years ago, I was quite slim all over but with shoulders like a coalheaverand hands to match.
I had a better night and didn't get up until 5.
Thinking of all of us who are unwell, worried or sad.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Nelski hope your day goes well
Have problems with my internet, one minute it's fine and then next gone. Will have to phone my provider this morning.
Went to mother's yesterday, another meeting. Seems she wants to be fed, not sure how much is age and how much is attention seeking.
Today I think the plan is to stay in, keep warm, maybe do some jigsaw,
Thoughts are with everyone finding life difficult, special thoughts with Holly, Poppy and taffIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning everyone,
That's a very early start for you Nelski, I hope the training goes well, and you can enjoy the creation of the moules mariniere later on. Unfortunately I've become allergic to mussels, but I know from prior times how enjoyable they are.
Dumpling, good to read you're having a rest from catering duties. I hope you can relax while feeding and emptying the washing machine.
I've slept well the past two nights, not waking up till 5.00am. What a difference it makes to energy levels. Yesterday I had a full diary, with sewing group in the morning, home for a rapid bowl of soup, and then started at a U3A art group in the afternoon. Artist I am not! But I simply want to apply paint to paper for relaxation purposes. A friend has lent me some tubes of acrylic paint and a couple of brushes to get me started. The time passed in a flash, it was a great diversion and I think I'll keep going.
The third event of the day was a very nice Burns Night held in the retirement community lounge. I love haggis but as it wasn't guaranteed gluten free couldn't have it, so ate beforehand and went along to enjoy the company and the entertainment.
Coffee club this morning, and I hope to do the last of a fairly large store cupboard restock beforehand. Once that's done, I'll be fine for a few weeks regardless of any severe weather that may chance along.
Foodwise today, soup is defrosting for lunch, and I'll be making a wild venison casserole with lots of root veg for tonight's meal. That'll do tomorrow as well, so cook's day off tomorrow
I tried something new yesterday, which was an egg and a banana blitzed with a stick blender till fluffy, then fried as a pancake. It held together and flipped well, and I had it with almond butter and fresh satsuma. Yum! So that'll be breakfast again today.
Have a good day, and keep warm and cosy. Virtual hugs to everyone, we can all use them! Especially Dumpling, taff, Holly and Poppy, Lame Wolf and our carers Csarina, Gers, snoozer and faithful mum visitor and carer Silver Oldie. Hoping Zeus continues to get better and that he's soon a happy dog with waggy tail once more. xxx0 -
Good morning everyone.
As I went to bed last night there was a blanket of snow outside, this morning it's all gone. Hope it stays that way.
Just before I woke up I had a most peculiar dream, I normally never remember them, this one was very vivid indeed and fairly disturbing.
Back to usual plans today, shopping at two supermarkets, tip and then drive home. Semester one ends next week so there's a ton of paperwork to write.
Whatever you all get up to I hope it's good! Happy Saturday.0 -
Good morning all,
Up early as I have a busy day today. First load of washing on and I'll get dressed in a minute as I have a parcel to pick up from the sorting office. By the time I've done that I should be able to put the second load on.
This afternoon I have volunteered to collect some cake decorating books from Ellesmere Port and deliver them to a young girl at the end of our peninsula who is an up and coming cake decorator. The young one deserves some encouragement as she works hard and she has no other means of fetching them so as long as it doesn't snow again......it'll be my good turn for the day. I also need to pack up two more bits of the HT's plastic things that I've sold on Ebay ready to post.
aod we do seem to be knitting some similar things. Once this hat is done I will be making a start on some baby cardis for the impending arrival of my great nephew.
TA I actually just read facebook on my phone in the middle of the night or check my emails.
Nels another vote for the rest of the day off from me.
Take care all of you

Morning. It snowed yesterday but has now gone it can stay away for me. I am going to sort the back room today. It has been a dumping ground for assorts of things and today is the day I am going to clear and put the Christmas stuff back in the loft and sort out the rest My sewing machine is in there and loads of material some can go
I need to do the shopping at some point today as well and if time call at the gym0 -
Morning All
We had snow last night but it's all gone now thank goodness. It's bitterly cold though so the heating can stay on all day - it helps to dry the washing!
Have a day off Nelski!
Well done dumpling, a fantastic achievement.
Bozwood, my Christmas decs are all boxed and ready for the loft, just need someone to put them up there.
Yoga this morning then making marmalade, still haven't done it. I did make lemon curd this morning so at least the lemons are used.
Stay warm and take care. XX0 -
No snow here at the moment. We often don't get any when the rest of the country does.
A peculiar day yesterday, I felt very lethargic but we went into Bedford for Steve to get a computer cable (I got him a new tablet/laptop for his birthday in a couple of weeks). You'd think that there might be a suitable cable in the huge boxs of them we've got, but of course not.
I also finished the quilting on the baby quilt and attached the binding, so I am now doing the hand sewing, hopefully it will be finished today.
We will probably go to yoga this morning because we can't go on Monday as we will be at the hospital.0
