Trying to buy Citric Acid ...

Hi, dont know if this helps, but i know someone who sells citric acid online (along with many other natural cleaning stuff!)
The link to it is http://www.summernaturals.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=219
this is the smaller one, but she has bigger quantities if it helps.
Again, i am not being held responsible for whatever it is you intend (or have been accused of doing with it! LOL)0 -
I'd heard about the refusal to sell citric acid but didn't realise it was so widespread!
I assumed chemists no longer sold it because it wasn't very profitable
since chemists stopped stocking it, like Zziggi, I've bought mine from my local Halal shop, they have it in (IIRC) 100gm sachets along with all the other spices
as well as its' use in winemaking (etc, etc ) it's often used in Asian snacks to add a tangy flavour0 -
Use cheap malt/distilled vinegar for your kettle descaling, you get a good result.
Syringes can be bought from farm supply shops, or a chemist who isn't an idiot. !!!!!!, even if you are a drug user you need clean needles and syringes! I use them for removing brake fluid from the car, oh and injecting glyphosate into horsetail (it's a weed) but it didn't kill them.0 -
In Italy (and i think France) you can buy syringes from the shelves in supermarkets - from what I gather, tin foil and candles are also used by Drug addicts - maybe shops should stop selling these too.
..... Just had a thought - don't they used notes to short - ban those too - lets go moneyless0 -
i work in a chemist, we only sell citric acid to people who look 'ok', we are in an area with high drug issues and it's not worth having those sorts of people in our shop, shop lifting, threatening staff etc. the same for needles, anyway drug users get free needles from the drug dependancy unit, we don't have a licence to sell needles to users, plus the only other users of needles is diabetics and they get them free as well. we only carry a very small supply of needles as most diabetics now use pre loaded pens and they take a needle, rather than a syringe and needle.
i always try and sell people the cheapest product, own brand or generic drugs, it's not some conspiricy by the drug industry to get you to buy expensive brands, but rather pharmacists looking out for their staff and shop.0 -
Being a 47 year old manager, I hope I look "OK" - I was also trying to buy it in that well known hot bed of drug abuse, Guildford (Surrey) high street. At least you sell it - these people treated me like a terrorist / drug abuser.0

I got citric acid from the pharmacy counter in a boots branch. She asked me if it was for wine making and I said no. Now I know why she asked. I had a blocked salivary gland and a touch on the tongue a few times cleared it
What the heck are we coming to. I don`t care if it is sold in bulk to heroin addicts. Perhaps they should have a central depot so they can get it. Why the heck should we be affected
Nanny state strikes again!!0 -
Citric Acid is available in Wilkos on the shelf in the wine making section. No need to face the do-gooder pharmacy assistants! HTH0

I was waiting in Sainsbury's pharmacy as they explained why they weren't selling citric acid to a lady in front of me who wanted it to make elderflower cordial. It was something to do with drugs, I think.
Buying hydrogen peroxide can be similarly complicated. If you dilute it a lot, it makes a v good mouthwash for brace wearers like me. As it can be, and has recently been, used for bomb-making, in many places you get a right old interrogation about it. However, in my local Asda pharmacy it is just out on the shelves and you can pick up several at one time, no questions asked.
Sometimes, though, I think it is the fact that they want you to buy branded pharmacy products (which have pretty much the same ingredients) and so don't stock the old-fashioned alternatives in any quantity. It can be hard to get large packs of things like sodium bicarbonate, borax and so on. I tend to stock up whenever I see them - pound shops can be good. When you go to the pharmacy they are also only aware of the pharmaceutical use and can't understand why you want a large quantity - they don't know about the culinary, cleaning or gardening uses of the products.
I do think that the pharmacy staff can be a bit over-zealous though. Not their fault, it is obviously what they are trained to do. I was buying a perfectly straightforward pharmacy product in Boots recently when the assistant said she wasn't sure she could sell me two - even when I pointed out that they had them on offer for 'buy one get one free'! Go figure!0 -
Isn't it funny that drug users can get their syringes and needles free whilst people that want to refill ink cartridges, do stuff with steam engines etc... can't even buy them. Then add to that our children have to put up with used needles in parks etc... Funny old world innit!0
