  • All a bit quiet on MWF front this week so far but I've emailed the student loan people last week to ask them when my loan becomes 25yrs old and thus written off. Its our only debt. I only started paying it back a couple of years ago when I went full time and finally earnt enough to make repayments. (Boo!!! )

I thought it was 25 yrs in May this year but they've come back saying its December which is a bit of a blow as I was already planning on how the monthly repayment will be immediately diverted to the regular monthly OP!

  • One last sneaky OP made last night of £18.06 (£15 sales and £3.06 TT's) bringing January's OP's to £1139.28. Great start towards the OP target of £7000 for the year.

Had a nice little surprise when i checked my emails earlier. I've sold a book on Amazon that I listed back in 2014 after finishing my degree!! Had to think twice about where it was but I've found it and will post off tomorrow. Only sold for £7.50 after fees but every little helps.

Now to start moving money after both being paid today ready for first OP of February tomorrow.

  • First OP for February made of £479.52 - made up from regular OP and the odd from the council tax as dont pay in Feb or March. The rest is going towards DDs school trip!

Calculate i need to pay £585 in OPs each month to hit target. Still got the odd from the child child benefit to come this month leaving about £70 to make in sales, TT's etc. Might need to get creative!!

  • Hi...
Loved the 'first world problem' comment. Really made me think what a privileged position we are in...

I love the idea of days till the mortgage is paid off..
I track by % and look forward to my letter from the bank each month so I can see my term shortening. I've shaved 2 years off since august!!

  • Unexpected ebay sale today. Will come out at about £3 after fees but its a bit more for the pot and is another item gone from the house!!

Still thinking of ways to make up the £70 difference this month. Looking at trying to shave a bit off weekly grocery budget. £10 a week would be more than half of it. That all depends on who goes shopping and if either of the dd's come too!!!:rotfl:

  • Something made me think i should check out the broadband deal today. Good job i did!!! We had come to the end of our deal months ago and I hadn't realised. I could kick myself! I'm obviously not as MSE as i thought!

Anyway i did some research on best bb deals and then I got in touch with them via live chat (love live chat, so easy) and negotiated £23 a month deal as opposed to the £36 pm  we have been paying. I decided to stay with as they are generally very good. Over an 18 month contract that's a saving of £234. You can guess where that's going!

I have now put a note in the diary for when this contract runs out.........

  • Well done... another great saving.

Your post inspired me to check out my 'days to mortgage freedom' just now. It's a depressing 4,497 (assuming that is to the end of May 2031 as per the spreadsheet.

That's only making the minimum payments that I have committed to though, and that take me to the ripe old age of 60. Im determined to get this down. Next target - that number needs to start with a 3. I need to lost 15 months off the mortgage to achieve this and find about £19k.
Challenge accepted! thanks for this boost!

  • £38.00 OP today from child benefit and a teeny TT. Waiting for some other bits and bobs to filter through - am@zon sale, another small eb@y sale, a tiny topc@shback amount and a modest cheque for a having electric lines over the back garden. Probably about £180 all in which covers the £70 extra to find each month for the next couple months so thats sorted!!!
