Affordable Housing

Affordable housing seems to be the buzz word at the moment, is it only possible to get rehoused if you go via the single mother route?. Has anyone got any tips on how to get affordable housing to rent or part rent?. I presume the first step is to apply to get on the Housing register?, also are there areas of the country where the waiting lists are shorter?.

Complicated subject. Take a look at the Shelter website here: http://england.shelter.org.uk/

Search for housing associations operating in your area. Try your local council website. Normally you have to have lived in the area for a while to get on the list. Priority for rent only homes goes to those in need, the poor, old, those with kids etc.

It seems that you have to actually play the system to get affordable rented through your local council, i.e single mother, someone with children being evicted from private rented accomodation. The majority of the population has to either rent private accomodation and be forced to move from home to home when the Landlord (as is his right) chooses to sell.

But there are some people who know just what to do to get social housing or the shared ownership schemes.

How absolute dare you generalise about single mothers!!!!!!!!!!!

Heres some tips for you, do what this single mother does and go to work! Rent privately! If housing is affordable, then buy one or ten!

Have a look at co-ownership and the mortgage board if you want to part rent, with regards to council housing I dont know how they allocate points, as a single mother (go on stone me) I dont qualify but I assume it's because I work and my child doesnt have phantom asthma, depression or stress.

Well I am probably in for a stoning- but who cares !, lets get real shall we?

How many young girls get themselves pregnant knowing full well that this is the route to a council house?, is this fair on the young couples who decide they want to do it the right way?

All I am asking is how can anyone improve their chances of finding a place through a social landlord?, should they register with multiple local authorities?, put their names down on a schemes? are there areas of the country where there aren't such a short supply?

    jebervic,

You are a sad excuse for a man. You have clearly just posted this for an argument.

Please go and do your trolling elsewhere.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I am part of a couple with a young child, we moved from a private flat to a private house so our son could have a garden, we were promised that it would be a long term let, 4 months later he tells us we have to leave at the end of the 6 months(selling house). We simply couldn't afford yet another lot of fees ect so we asked the council to help us which they did.

I cant answer how many girls get pregnant on purpose and infact I dont know ANY that have done that, instead of bashing all of us single mother why dont you give the useless, waste of space men that aren't strong enough to deal with a baby, and aren't moral enough to look after them when they arrive. Stop generalising us single mothers, I'm sick to death of having to defend myself and I'm not even entitled to friking council/HA housing.

Actually I wasn't trolling, but think what you want

I am just sick of seeing threads about what way house prices are going to go, this is supposed to be a MONEYSAVING website, so my thread was to help others to utilise the system.

I own my own home and rent out another, but I thought it would be useful for others if useful advice was offered.

Anyway, that enough from me, I really can't be bothered to defend myself on what was supposed to be a thread.

Maybe you should learn how to phrase a sentence without generalising and baiting people.

Also it's the people that are 'utilising' the system that are making life bloody hard for the rest of us

Can I just ask, did they automatically rehouse you at the end of the tenancy agreement or did you have to wait for a court order?.

My question is not meant to cause offence !
