VW emissions, slater and Gordon claim, help
Evening all,
A while ago I signed up to slater and Gordon’s VW emissions registration claim, as I had a car that was effected and when it came to selling it reduced the value quite a bit.
Now when I created the account all I did was literally create it. I didn’t input any car details, no utility bill or passport for identification verification. Just name, address and email.
I never finished it because when it said ‘these are the documents we need’, I had a look and realised I don’t have them anymore so couldn’t finalise the registration.
I’ve had an email today asking me to finalise my account and complete my schedule of information questionnaire otherwise I will be struck off the claim and open to costs from VW and slater and Gordon.
Although on my registration page it says that my registration is still awaiting approval and that I need to register details of at least one car to progress the claim, which I haven’t done?
I’ve emailed them and awaiting a reply, will I be made to pay some costs even though I never fully made the claim?
Abit worried about this... wish I never bothered now
Any advice from anyone?
Thanks

Can you quantify the value that you have lost compared to if this episode had never occured?0 -
Yes, don't get suckered into things like this again. You don't have a valid claim for any genuine losses and as you're finding out, someone else stands to make money off the back of a loss you have been convinced you have suffered. The apparent "losses" have been marketed very effectively to the point where people believe it to be true.
What evidence do you have that your car's value was reduced "quite a bit"?0 -
Completely agree with both answers... my own fault for being suckered in to it, if I knew then what I know now I wouldn’t entertain it.
Realistically there is no real evidence of it... when I was ready to sell it and valued it I was told the value had dropped due to it from a few people.
But all life lessons aside, any advice on my current situation? I’d like to think considering I never completed my registration, provided any proof of identity and on the portal homepage it says ‘you must register the details of at least one car to progress your claim’, I wouldn’t be liable for anything?0 -
Hello
I too have had the very same email today 17/01/2019 from Slater & Gordon advising me to complete the online portal schedule of information, which also shows as awaiting approval. I didn’t submit my details as my vehicle VIN number showed it was unaffected. I also received a call from Slater & Gordon in December I told them my vechile was not affected & therefore I would not be submitting a claim. I don’t understand how Slater & Gordon can serve a claim against VW and tell me I am now a claimant without my consent and without my submission of the completed schedule of information required. The email also stated I am liable for any costs if I withdraw my claim against VW. Not happy I will be contacting the ombudsman.0 -
Glad it’s not just me! I bet there’s quite a few people with the same email... it’s crazy isn’t it.
If you’re buying a house a solicitor would t start proceedings without proof of ID and proof of funds, so how can they start without proof of Id or any affected car information?
Not to sound daft but what’s the ombudsman?
Have you emailed them after receiving this email?
Keep me updated with yours and I’ll do same0 -
Blenk2, I share your angst. I also wish I had not started this as the more I've looked into it the less I can believe that I actually thought it was a good idea and worth doing. However, after reading the email and FAQ's that I also received yesterday (having somewhat stuck my head in the sand until now, in terms of finishing it off) I've decided to complete the process. Reason being that the FAQ's state clearly that the risk of having to pay costs is higher if you don't complete the information necessary for a valid claim. At least this way, I cannot be accused by S&G of failing to do what they advised. If I don't complete the claim.....then based at least on what the FAQ's say.... I would be leaving myself wide open.0

Exactly my thoughts, it’s the first and last time I’ll be doing anything like it, glad you’ve got all the documents to complete it... has your portal said it’s all complete? You should be in the no win no fee zone now right?
Might try have another look tomorrow to see if I have anything anywhere... what type of documents for the vehicle did you have to provide?0 -
Interesting report on the no win, no fee industry https://www.legalombudsman.org.uk/publications/no-win-no-fee/0

I'd like to see VW ask for costs on the claim you didn't make. The email is a scam to scare you into signing up.0 -
Sorry to hijack this thread but I was checking my credit file yesterday and realised that Slater and Gordon have done a credit check on my file. Any ideas why they would have done this and if this will be regardedas a hard or soft search? I/we are part of the claimants in the case but I am only the owner/driver of the vehichle whilst my husband is named on the finance and all paperwork.0
