Sorry to bring this up and I'm a bit too lazy to trawl threads to find the solution. Especially after setting everything up again on this laptop!

I've had to reset my computer and as a result lost the Firefox add on with which it was possible to fill the screen rather than a third of it with this silly layout.
I'm sure it was in this thread somewhere. I've already looked though a few pages with out success.

Can anyone help?

Assuming you're using the Green theme, install uBlock Origin and then add these to the My Filters tab in Options:
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com###MSEForumsRHS
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com###forum_top_1336472146
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com###MSEResourceBar
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com###theWrapper
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com###footer
    forums.moneysavingexpert.com##.forum_container:style(width: 99% !important)

If you only want to make it stretch to the whole width and want to retain the rest of the page elements, you only need to add the last line.

That worked perfectly. Yes, it is just the width.
    Thanks very much.:)
Would it work for other sites too? If so how can it be achieved?

Yes it will work. How it is achieved depends on how the site is constructed ... you need to determine the page object that defines the width, then create a Filter similar to that last line which references that page object.

    (The object/styleclass in MSE's case is .forum_container).
