  • p.s. on the veg box. I use Riverford and get a medium fruit and veg box every two or three weeks (there are just two of us) which costs just under £18. I absolutely love it and you can pick and choose what you want, decide when you want deliveries - ie. you don't have to have one every week or regularly, the produce is beautiful and kept in the fridge, most of it lasts a long time. I'm getting now so I don't want to buy supermarket fruit and veg which is much poorer quality and not very much cheaper in a lot of cases which doesn't feel like good value. I also like supporting Riverford's business model which farms to make a profit but not at the expense of the land, animals or staff (who now own the business as partners) and are showing a way of operating that is in harmony with the environment. Each box comes with a newsletter and word from Guy Singh-Watson who is the founder, I particularly like 'Guy's rants' which are thought provoking and enlightening. Lots on Riverford's YouTube channel if anyone is interested.

I forgot to say that neither farm uses plastic packaging at all, salad in the summer came in cellophane bags and anything else delicate comes in paper bags which can be given back. One farm uses returnable nets, and the other returnable cardboard boxes.

    Morning folks.

I'm up and at them already, have to leave soon for Oban. I've vacuumed out the woodburner and set it ready to be lit when needed, filled and turned on the DW and filled the bird feeders. My plan is to head straight down to Glasgow after Oban and teaching in the afternoon.

It's very chilly here, 1 degree outside. The big thick jacket has been retrieved from the wardrobe and ready to keep me cosy.

The fridge is almost empty as I'm trying to have more self control over my buying habits. Going to the shops every day should not become a habit, I don't do that though I really want to. Being so far from the place helps.:rotfl:

Now I must away - I wish everyone a happy Thursday.

    Morning everyone,
It’s cold out there but not the frost we were expecting, I got soaked over at the yard yesterday and the temperature really dropped, we are meant to have -5 overnight so will dig Lu’s big stable rug out of my box and leave it out for her, she has a fleece cover but it might not be enough.
Need to get over the farm shop today for some meat and veg but that’s about it, still feeling a bit rubbish tbh, am thinking something like a tonic might be a good idea as feel a bit bit run down with the UTI etc, sorry that you are suffering as well Csarina
Hope little Zeus is recovering well, it’s horrible seeing them in pain isn’t :(
Hugs to all poorlies, how are you doing Holly and Polly?

Have a good day folks x
  • Good morning everyone,

    Where has the week gone!

Very busy and positive day in work yesterday. It meant that I stayed late in the office but needs must. Went home quickly ate my mussels and left for football training. Probably didn't get to sleep till closer to 12.

No gym this morning, I'll go after work if time allows. Another game of football tonight too although my dodgy knee is starting to play up a bit, so I'm might have to take it easy. I'm making a big batch of chilli tonight, so I'll probably have 3 or 4 bags put in the freezer for future use. I kind of wing it, and just chuck in the meats that like (chorizo and bacon), but it turns out quite nice - or to my taste at least.

I had a brief conversation with my boss yesterday as he had questions about PAYE. I work for a start-up and all of the staff, apart from me, are on contracts. So they invoice the company at the end of the month for their services. My boss told him that this saves him £10k a year doing it this way. Something seems a bit off with this system. Does anyone know more about it??

Midgie & TA - Both your meals sound lovely today. I have food envy.

Speky, If the staff only work for that one company then HMRC will come calling. They will say that they are employed by the company and should be on PAYE. Steve looked into it when he was returning to work 3 days a week and decided that it wasn't worth the hassle to be classed as self-employed.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

UTI is really kicking in, I am seeing the Dr at lunchtime for my injection in my wrist, will ask her for a script. I started drinking bicarb in water yesterday which kept it at bay until I went to bed.

Bright morning, we have had a slight fall of snow and a frost, we live on a bus route, so the road to the Drs should be ok, glad I do not have to go 'up the hill road' where I came to grief last year.

I am starting to cut the plain blocks for the quilt I am making, have to cut 25 and then the setting blocks as I plan to put the pieced blocks 'on point'. So this mornings task to cut at least 10. I need to put the blocks on the sitting room floor to see the best way to set them out, could be fun. OH is going out one evening next week so might do it then and pin the rows together.

Hopefully it will be mac and cheese tonight for supper, will do a salad with it. We ended up having sausage, beans and jacket spuds last night. WE had cheese and biscuits for lunch so no cheese for supper. Have some soup left in the fridge will have that at lunchtime today with some bread. Need to make a loaf.

Pleased to hear that some of you are getting a bit more sleep. I was up to the toilet twice last night, but did manage to get back to sleep, up by 8.30am for a change.

Morning!! Up earlier today, went sort of' sewing last inght, just a ctach up, meet everyone again and work out when I'm going to be capable of doing it again, also got some fresh eggs, so yay, will be joining you in the boilt'egg department this morning WeeMidgie.
Feel a bit more get up and go this morning, so will pay the council tax and then complain they didn't pick up the plastics. Bought a pair of armwarmers made with cashmere from Katwise for a Christmas present to me, that, along with an Echo dot will be my presents this year out of Christmas money. Then I will attempt a small declutter of christmas and birthday cards - there are a couple I want to keep, a handmade cross stitch one for definite, need to find a frame for it.

That was a really good idea Gers. I recycled some chocolates last night by taking them with me :)...Will look out some other stuff as I'm sure they're still collecting unwanted smellies and stuff for a homeless charity and I know I have some of those. I'll put the Christmas stuff away again too.
A veg box sounds like a great idea, when I lived in the flats someone used ot have a veg box and occasionally a meat box delivered, they did look nice, I'll look into local ones to me.
Good to hear you're on the mend dumpling, and that you are sleeping better TA. Hope your UTIs get well soon Lainey and csarina. Hope Zeus is better with his cone of shame, enjoy your ready-to-go woodburner after Gers :) Feeling better nanny? And SO, hope you're doing OK today, and wotcha Poppy, Holly....
Happy garden ornaments of delights that is Thursday!

    Good morning,

I'm staying in today as I'm still a bit wheezy (much, much better though). I've already made some soup and hard boiled some eggs and I tidied/decluttered a shelf in the book case while I was waiting for them to be done. I've pulled out what we need for today's meals from the freezer and updated the inventory so I'm going to sit and knit now for a while I think.

I'm hoping that both Zeus and Candy are feeling better today.

Take care all of you :)
