  • Hey thanks for posting this, really good to hear as i am in the process of switching to them. I had a surprise visit from 1 of their callers to check what i was paying for gas/electric. They were shocked when i was on a standing charge and even more shocked when i told them my direct debit each mth.

They were great, told me what id pay for gas/electric, so much cheaper than what i am paying now and said he'd upted the payments a bit so id be in credit all the time.

So far i am really pleased with the whole process and even more pleased after having read this.

    Hi,

Question - you were unhappy with your old Supplier but the sale agent has convinced you to overpay to leave yourself in credit. The sales agent then knows just how much Suppliers like to hang onto credits. You should pay the correct amount based on assessment of your needs, not to build up credits which your Supplier then gets to hold onto (think about if they did that to all their customers - how much interest would they be earning?)

Your Supplier will keep assessing you based on your bills but they will ask you to pay what is required, not money on top unless it's due to a winter quarter and you would have underpaid. Best thing you can do is get quarterly readings to replace your bill ans then they will be able to better manage your DD.

I see your point but can I add that they encourage you to overpay so your don't get an unexpected bill. and it's only for one billing period so they can assess your usage and then they will change it to whatever you want, they are always happy to change it at anytime and they will calculate your usage for you over the phone at anytime to let you know if you are over budget, or under budget-at anytime!!! (the whole idea of monthly d/d) and if you do overpay and you want your money back-guess how long it takes....3-5 days and it's not a farty arsey cheque, it's a bacs credit straight back to where it come from-my current account where I paid my bills from, no hassle, no fuss, refunded in full and a got a letter informing me just before it went into mt account (literally a day before it was that quick).

So I think it is more customer service that sales here to be honest and THAT is what the competitors need to do. They need to wake up!!

Other suppliers need to drop the complacency and give customers what they want-good products and good customer services.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm with Scottish Hydro and have always been with them. Was on a prepayment meter but changed to Monthly Direct Debit. I keep tabs on the readings and send an updated reading every so often. I've never had any problems with my D/D payments etc. I did look on a comparison site and saw the companies that came up cheaper but when I saw the amount of gripes about them I thought better the devil you know. Fair enough, I might be paying a bit more for my electricity but I'd rather pay a bit more for decent service and no hassles over D/Ds and no stress than go for a cheaper company and be stuck with a useless utility provider and a load of grief. BTW, my folks were with NPower for a while, they changed from Scottish Hydro and are now back with them.

I am so pleased I have read these posts, changed from BG to southern Electric, in the process of change over. Got a call from them and a lovely lady explained what was happening, when the change over would be, when my dd will start.
I was wondering if I had done the right think, but you have put my mind at rest.
    Many thanks

some kind soul on here told me that they also do a care tariff for old people and people with disabilities and on low incomes...I rang them and yes I am now on it also got my free energy lightbulbs and my free carbon monoxide detector today...so another saving...I am always pleasently surprised at how helpful and nice they are to talk to...I actually asked them to take more for my bills as I didn't want to get into debt with them...and they have told me that if I get to far ahead they will give me some back if I wish...but to be honest I like the idea of being in credit with my bills rather than them saying as the price of things are going up we will have to charge you more on your monthly DD's...which they do only do this so that the customer doesn't get behind with payment's...a good thing if you ask me...as not all companies do this they just let you get into debt...I don't mind being in credit at least I know that I am not going to get an unexpected bill...10/10 from me for all at SE...they are the tops...I have been a customer f or 18months now and will continue to give them my custom for many more years to come...thankyou southern electric...:)
