can anyone advise me please. I wish to buy a cheap smartphone out- right £100 ish. I want real PAYG , no monthly topups or contracts and I would like to keep my existing phone number.
It would be for making and receiving calls and receiving sms texts.
I am presently on a very old unsmart mobile with Vodafone.
All help greatly appreciated

I think Huawei P Smart is, possibly, the best (new, from UK) phone you can get for £100ish

- it's not locked to giffgaff and can be used on any network (you will need to ask your provider to send you a new smaller size SIM)

And in terms of the PAYG element both O2 and three do 321 ie calls 3p per minute, texts 2p a minute and data 1p per mb.
If you make masses of calls and texts, consider Smarty which ends up being £5 per month for unlimited calls and texts if you have a smartphone. (Actually it appears to cost more but if you don't use the data, the cost of the unused data is rebated the following month so it turns into £5 per month.)0 -
I would question the fact that you need a smartphone given the usage stated.
Take a look at the Nokia 3310 which is an inexpensive but up to date dumb mobile phone and costs £49.99 from John Lewis or Argos in various colours. You can get them cheaper (such as from Giffgaff) or locked to networks for even less (but I would give locked ones a miss).
The big advantage is the battery life and ease of use.
As far as payg goes what is your typical usage? If minimal then those mentioned by Herongull are good options.0 -

at £149. The only difference in the URLs is the '-existing' bit. You'd think then that maybe it's a special deal for existing customers, but I get the £149 price regardless of whether I'm logged in or not. I'm puzzled!Stompa0 -
