With 0.19 acres of arable land/capita and having become the biggest global land trader in order to secure food supplies from outside of China, good luck with the self-sufficiency.

China officially cancelled all purchases of US agricultural products this week. Temperature's rising.

It'll be interesting to see whether China stops buying food produced on the approx $1.5bn worth of USA farmland that its Chinese companies own.

Smithfield Foods appears to be targeting other markets. Not as they have any issues in selling their pork output.

Trying to get across to the deniers and scaremongers that they have to take action:

Two-thirds of companies that export to the European Union have still not taken the most basic steps to prepare for a no-deal Brexit.

    And fewer in Ireland!

The writing has been on the wall for some time now. I find it absolutely stunning that after 3 years we still have people saying we are not ready. It's like dealing with teenagers!

Some companies will be prepared and will exploit the opportunity, expand and increase turnover and profits.

Others will continue to hide and do nothing. A bit like being left behind because they didn't realise the internet would change the world.

The reason they are not prepared is because it is basically impossible to prepare for something you cannot see. Brexit is economic vandalism on an industrial scale. There is absolutely no parallel in the history of the world to the self-inflicted pain a No Deal Brexit will enforce on this country.

I’d have far more sympathy with the readiness view is a single Brexiteer could tell me what Brexit would look like at any point over the last three years. Simply, they cannot, because they do not know.

How do you prepare for an unspecified brexit? Stockpiling? Delay investment? Move back into the customs union?

All have pretty big downsides and may be impossible for smaller companies. For many it's probably easier to just close.

Our planning has basically been to tell everyone "We've no idea what's going to happen so can't do anything about it. You EU nationals might want to apply for settled status sooner rather than later, and bring any family members over before things go wrong"
I'm sure we'll need to do something, but we won't know what it is until it happens.

    Business as usual ...
Move back into the customs union is the negotiator job. Also it is not what the people have voted in the referendum.

    Impossible ??????????????? So exaggerating
The situation could have been worse. Just imagine those who experienced the second world war? Is the impact anywhere near with no -deal Brexit ?

Any living evidence of WW2 might want to share their own experience of WW" in comparison to he coming event of no deal Brexit. Please be honest …

Some business become insolvent, the new business will emerge. Look at like Philips Green business it is nothing to do with Brexit

It is very naive not to apply for a settle status if you are planning to continue staying in the UK after Brexit.

I meant moving businesses in to the EU.

For some businesses? I said "may" and it absolutely is impossible for some. For instance, a small company with a tight margin and small property probably can't afford to buy in 2-3 months worth of supplies in a single hit, or rent another unit to store said stuff.

It's a similar story for big companies - for Nissan to warehouse enough stuff to handle the move from just-in-time to a 3-month delay would mean building a warehouse 3x bigger than Amazons biggest, with all the associated cost. They haven't so I'm assuming they'll just slow production right round and will spend that money building a new facility somewhere that's more business friendly.
The situation could have been worse. Just imagine those who experienced the second world war? Is the impact anywhere near with no -deal Brexit ?
Why not go back to the plague or the great fire? We survived them too but they were pretty crap.

You'd need to be well into your 80's to remember any of WW2...

Agreed, but does Brexit help or hinder?
    What new opportunities will emerge?
I can see a boom for reposessions and loan sharking, but I'm not sure what else.

Indeed - with our governments track record it'd be stupid not to.

I'm all for a bit of remaining, but Caroline Lucas' suggestion of an all female emergency cabinet is even more bonkers than going for a no deal brexit. :o

It couldn't be worse than the cabinet Boris selected, surely?

I am disappointed that Theresa May has not been invited.
