They can be read from several feet away like RFID tags. Equipment similar to the anti-theft RFID readers used in shop doorways could easily read contactless cards going in and out (unless you take measures to shield them). All the sheeple are effectively walking round with one of those yellow tags in their pockets/bags.

Not true, they can be read from a maximum of 5cm away, so they'd have to get very close to you! Even then they couldn't clone the actual NFC chip with the information they get. They'd have to have a portable Card Machine to take payment...

If you are scared of your contactless being cloned, it is unlikely but if it does happen, all transactions would be refunded by your bank so long as you were not negligent.

There is a reason there is a £30 cap per transaction and that's to limit the bank's exposure for fraudulent use. The customer will not lose out in those cases, refunds would be almost immediate upon calling them.

When I received my first ever contactless card, I took great delight in paying for my sandwich in Pret-a-Manger by moving my trouser pocket close to the reader, and not even taking my wallet out of my pocket :-)

The card readers were positioned on a low shelf in front of the tills, just at trouser pocket height.

Sadly no longer possible, because I've got several contactless cards in my wallet now, and would want to ensure the correct card was charged.

I also had a "Luma" card for a short time (while they were paying 4% cashback), and for some reason the contactless would never work in my local M&S. The card machine always came up with "Please present only one card to the reader" and the cashier's screen said "Multiple cards presented" even though my Luma card was the only card anywhere near the reader.

They contain information which uniquely identifies the card and so in most cases the carrier which can be read by rf transmission. It quacks like a duck....

    None of this is true

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    So much ignorance here.

in places they claim you need to be closer to power the card, but, you don't the same antenna is used to transmit and receive so from further away your snooping equipment just needs to provide more power.

I am not concerned about cards being cloned. I am concerned about carrying an RFID tag allowing me to be electronically tracked as I enter and leave buildings, vehicles, where ever. It is a potential invasion of privacy for the sake of being able to wave a card around a reader rather than sticking it in a slot. For me that trivial convenience is not worth the risk, but, sheeple will be sheeple and we all get to put up with the consequences.

So i'm assuming you must never carry a mobile phone with you?

The idea that you are being tracked by contactless cards is ridiculous because the short range of the cards would make any tracking very unreliable.

But why would they bother when they can track mobile phones instead at a far greater range?. When walking around with a mobile phone it is quite easy to track where you go using the various signals it emits such as Wi-Fi. This technology is readily available and currently in use in some places such as shopping malls.

As something of a germaphobe (around flu season). I happen to think contacless is the greatest invention of all time! Those "pressed by everyone" chip and pin machines give me the fear! :rotfl:

I find it amusing that people who use the term "sheeple" are almost always people who blindly follow nonsense claims without question, so long as the claim contradicts an official line.

Science says contactless doesn't work at 5 foot range

However, tinfoilhatfreeman37 on YouTube says they do without any evidence, therefore they do and you're sheeple for believing they don't
