Should the housing association have removed these tiles?

  • Hiya again. Just to update things. I’ve spoken to the council and the first attempt wasn’t helpful they didn’t seem bothered to be honest and said it’s my ceramic tiles so basically my business but did say if I take one of my tiles up, they could look at the ones underneath to determine if they ‘could’ contain it. I rang them today to ask if they could just take a sample from underneath the carpet grip and they said they would let the specialist team know and ask them to contact me with an appointment so hopefully they do test it and I can go from there and see what I should do then.
  • Hmmm firstly I’m not a nut case for asking advice on this sort of thread and I’m not sure what other thread your talking about but why not offer advice instead of insulting people

I think Dean's comment is rude. But your other thread is the one you are panicking about asbestos behind a sealed fireplace and now getting coughs etc?

  • And you link the two users together how???
And as for building a case ? You come to that conclusion how???

Let me get his straight, the only thing Im wanting the council to sort is this kitchen floor because they left it in here when they had a chance to remedy the issues before anyone moved in, as when the last tenant left it was empty for weeks until i moved in. But no they just left it like that cracking in places and expected a tenant to live like that. If they have presumed it to contain asbestos they should have at least provide some sort of guidance to me so I know how to deal with this or they could have at least have covered these tiles themselves instead of leaving it to the responsibility to the tenant. Now I’ve put my own tiles down and need to change them due to having them down over 8 years I am going to have issues because of a floor they didn’t do anything about. The only thing I want doing is to be provided with some advice and gidance on what to do, I don’t want anything else. I’m generally worried about the health implications to my children, not because I want a case as you so rudely suggested but because I don’t want to cause my children harm

To keep on track of his thread related to this issue I will say the landlords don’t seem to be bothered about the floor at all. The first time they came out the guy rolled his eyes and say ‘we wouldn’t remove it as it’s best left alone’
Then when I asked him to test it and he said I wouldn’t have to get some tiles up for him to just have a look to see. My point is though, they could have sorted THE TILES before I moved in or at least encapsulated it themselves to make safer instead of leaving it to me. That’s my point

Helena. Have read "your"? other threads. If you are suffering from suicidal tendencies because of your suffering from worry/anxiety, you really need to seek professional help re your mental heath issues. First step is appointment with GP who will give advice/medication. To help you through your problems.

  • why would they have needed to 'sort the gas'? It was a working gas fire that conceivably another tenant would have made use of and enjoyed the benefit of? The fact you though it was 'ugly' is your problem not theirs.

In regards to the tiles - you made the potential ACM inaccessible by tiling over it (not them) so quite right in asking you to remove the tiles you laid to gain access.

Asbestos is fine is undisturbed (infact its safer) so your surveyor was probly correct in now saying ist best left alone.

To now remove it will require hammer/bolster (& the resultant disturbance and associated risks) to get access to the vinyl tile...So you are the architect of your own downfall.

The vinyl could have been removed before you living there, correct.

But why should they have? And should they have done if for the other million tenants in their stock? at what cost do you think this would come at, and do you think this might affect the rent they need to charge to operate?
  • Gas was a typo??? Sorry I went talking about the gas fire I was talking about the tiles
