Which sofa shop would you recommend?

I'm not allowed to say what I'd like
But if you find a good model that you like in one of the big stores, have a good look for it online - you might just find a clearance outlet selling the same sofa for less!
Also if you buy a sofa online that's in stock rather than made to order and you do so online, you get the same right to return within 14 days as if you'd bought anything else online.
It does depend on your budget of course. We handle a lot of clearance from other stores, so I can say with some confidence that some Sofology, DFS and ScS sofas are quite decent - and some not so much. If you want to know how well your sofa will last, look up the model on eBay or gumtree and see what it looks like secondhand. That should give you a good idea of how they'll look after you've owned them for a year or two.
Also worthwhile checking this very forum to see if anyone is complaining about the model you're interested in.Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:0 -
We found the sofa we wanted in Next and then bought it on ebay for less than half the price. Same name of model from an online furniture shop up north."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

Thank you for sharing your detailed experience.
I like IKEA for a lot of stuff but I just can't deal with their sofas. I find them too low and too soft too or for other reasons. I live next door to one so I've been there regularly but it's always one I just don't consider for sofas unfortunately. Although I do like the look of a few of them but sitting on them disappoints me.
We used to have their sofa bed and it was so comfy. It didn't have an armrest though which is something I do want in a sofa.
It is good you have the opportunity to rule IKEA out for a sofa anyway! And you are getting a good number of responses here.Do let us know how you eventually get on.
An uncomfortable sofa is ... "neither use nor ornament"? An uncomfortable sofa is .... a big fat white elephant?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
We bought our fabric sofa from Sofology about 5 years ago and it has coped with the rigours of two leggy teens and their friends.
I had an issue with the fabric bobbling slightly but they sorted it no hassle at all.
I am quite vigilant (or that could be sad!) and ensure I circulate the cushions and don't sit in one place all of the time!0 -
After 8yrs of cheap 'need to furnish a house quickly' sofas that were killing mine and OH backs we looked between the Stocksund sofa at Ikea and the same style at Sofa.com We tried both in stores and there was little between them - I think the IKEA one we tried had been well tested by visitors to store as it didn't necessarily feel as plump as I'd have liked.
However after umming and ahhing and weighing up whether to go with Ikea or 4 x the cost with Ikea, we stuck with Ikea and have found them really comfy (and plumper than in store). Also a bonus of the covers being washable. However, that's just our experience - guess you may be looking for something else in terms of sofas if they're not to your taste.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Long running thread about Sofology here:-

Vimle sofa in Ikea, is a newish range and can be added to. There are several videos on youtube of it. Thought it was comfortable and ok(ish) but more practical, than stylish.
Don't forget Argos, as they regularly have 15-20% discount offers on line. Obviously you can't try before you buy, but they do let you return the items, if you don't like.

To answer the question - I wouldn't buy from Harveys again - customer service abysmal, delivery scheduling a shambles.
OTOH the Westchester suite has turned out to be (so far so good) well 'armoured' as for as our cat's claws are concerned!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
I bought a Marks and Spencer leather sofa in the sale 12 years ago and it still looks good!
No sagging, kids jump on it and has survived two house moves!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
