Problems with brand new printer.

I have tried all your great suggestions. Printer is no longer spitting out paper but still the photos are faded and have lines through them. I haven't been using photo paper - I want to use plain white A4 paper whilst I'm trying to figure this out.
Any suggestions? I'll be taking it back (bought from Argos) this weekend if I can't get it to print ok.0 -
Did you:
* try the uninstall/reinstall procedure?
* read the manual and try to follow the Direct Install procedure?
* access the Canon website?
After taking it back to Argos, will you buy another printer? Please read the manual if you do: don't just use the CD setup. Use "Add Printer" -
* Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Add Printer.
Windows will find the latest drivers for you.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I don't know about Canon's but my epson has a draft mode which is used to quickly print out using very little ink just so you can see everything is how you want it on the page. Has the Canon got that set? Have you selected photo quality as a printing option?0

Thanks for the suggestion. I had a go but no difference. Still faded and lines running throughout.0 -

Can you post/put a photo of what has been printed out to show people on here and then maybe they can see what the issue is.0 -
Photos use a lot of ink, are you using normal cartridges or are these some 'demo' cartridges that came with the printer? Any chance you are actually running out of ink? Have you had any paper jam and had trouble removing all the paper from inside the printer?0

This doesn't help with your problem but when I was researching what printer to buy, Canon was the make most likely to use up ink when doing head cleaning, which they do before each print action (or is it after, I can't remember).
Have a look at the Which? reports on this.
I ended up buying a Brother printer, although it wouldn't be as good at printing photographs, which Canon are reportedly good at.0
