Problems with brand new printer.

I've just bought a Canon printer, after reading good reviews. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's the printer but I'm having problems already. The only photos it will print ok are those straight from www. Photos printed via paint are ok except for some lines running throughout. And photos printed directly also have those lines but are also faded. Text is ok. But now, nothing will print because every sheet of paper is being spat out.
Am I doing something wrong or do I return the printer?

"I've just bought a car, and something has gone wrong with it. How do I fix it?"
First thing I'd want to know is the [make and] model of the printer, then how you are connecting to it: USB cable? Wireless?0 -

I presume you installed the driver software from a CD (or via a download from Canon)? Or did you just connect it up and allow Microsoft to choose the nearest drivers it had?
With regard to the streaky lines, you should go into the printer setup (still called My Printer?) and run the print test routines.
Continuous paper feeding - obviously you've "turned it off and turned it on again"...0 -
Driver software from the CD provided with the printer.
Done the print test routines and they've come out ok.
Yes, have tried the old faithful turning it off and turning it back on.0 -
Hmmh - if you haven't got any improvement from that lot, I'd take it back. I do hope you bought it from somewhere sensible...0

Use the photo printing software from canon. That's what I use and never have a problem.
"Canon Easy Photo Print EX" mine is called.Friendly greeting!0 -
I have the 6150, is the 5150 wireless, and are you using it in wireless mode?
If so, I recommend that you switch off, unplug and uninstall the printer from your PC's and any other devices. Read the manual that came with the printer, especially the part referring to "Install Direct to Printer". That will install each PC and device directly to the printer. I struggled with the Install procedure, trying to install to the router, but the Direct install was quick and easy. The important step is to read and understand the manual: and do not use the CD at all to install. You can also download more information and software from the Canon website.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Canon website:
https://www.canon.co.uk/printers/pixma-ts5150-series/
Canon Support:

If you have uninstalled previous setup, follow this: -
To select Wireless Direct installation: -
https://ugp01.c-ij.com/ij/webmanual/Tutorial/TS5100%20series/EN/TRL/trl-0003.html
Scroll down to 5, select "Wireless Direct." Follow instructions.
That is what I did. The only difference between the TS6150 and the 5150, is that the 6150 has 5 cartridges.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

You say every sheet of paper is being spat out. Are you sure that the ink has not run out as with new printers i don't think you get lots of ink in the cartridges because the firms want you to buy expensive ink from them.
If the paper is spat out do you still hear the printer trying to print but the paper comes out with no print/ink on it or does the paper go into the printer and come straight back out again?0 -
When you print these photos from paint or whatever, are you using photo paper? And have you told the printer you're using photo paper?0
