trace debt letter

Hi guys
Came home tonight to a final demand letter from trace demanding £160. The 7 days they stated ran out last Thursday. I have not received any previous communication from trace or that of any actual notice that I had a parking ticket from NCP I am an area manager and complete the same route weekly and I the only NCP I use I have a Ringo reciept for. I have no evidence off NCP that I was late back to my car and would expect a small buffer on this anyway. I have entered the supposed PCN number into the NCP website and it’s saying not found. Should I just ignore and await their next move?
Thanks

Yes, that's the correct action at this stage.Geminox1878 wrote: »Should I just ignore and await their next move?
Post #4 of the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread will give you comprehensive guidance on how to deal with debt collectors letter, but I have already summarised it for you.
Have you changed your car recently?
Check that the RingGo app still has the correct vehicle reg. no.0 -
Thanks will have a read
No change of car, details correct. Only thing I can think is I may have been a little longer but max 5 min. Still no ticket on car, no communication off anyone until this letter tonight, posted today to try and make me panic/ring and pay tomorrow I suppose
Is it worth contacting NCP for their evidence or just see what happens ?0 -
Got a letter from BW legal giving me 16 days to pay. They have finally told me what the offence is but still provided no evidence. What should I do now?0

That sounds like another debt collector letter, for a lawful letter before claim they must give you 30 days notice, include financial forms, and give full details of the claim, complain to your MP.
The whole industry is a scam, relying on threats of court, and the public's ignorance of the Law, A bill is currently before Parliament which will regulate the scammers, many of whom are ex-clampers.
This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of alleged contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors. Is has been suggested by an MP that some of these companies may have connections to organised crime.
Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, (especially Smart}, and others have already been named and shamed in the House of Commons as have Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each week), hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned. They lose most of them, and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P. for unprofessional conduct
The problem has become so widespread that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers.
Sir Greg Knight's Private Members Bill to curb the excesses, and perhaps close down, some of these companies passed its Second Reading in the Lords this month, and, with a fair wind, will l become Law later this year..
All five readings are available to watch on the internet, (some 7-8 hours), and published in Hansard. MPs have an extremely low opinion of the industry. Many are complaining that they are becoming overwhelmed by complaints from members of the public. Add to their burden, complain in the most robust terms about the scammers. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

The 16 day BWLegal letter ???
Just a debt crawling letter.
BWLegal know the law and the PaP. Therefore, they will sooner or later send you a "letter before claim"
This gives you 30 days to respond and must prove their claim against you including all costs.
You can then rebut/respond to that0 -
Send a SAR to NCP asking for all personal data they hold about you and your vehicle's VRM, including copies of all correspondence relating to either (you should then get some details of the original charge).
Here's a template to help you frame your SAR.
