I would check this with the local planning authority
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • If the house it was overlooking is also built by your developers I would imagine the buyer of that house kicked off about the window and negotiated that it be removed as a condition of them buying the other property?

You're not going to get your window so how much are you looking for in compensation? Their offer of £500 seems to me some kind of acceptance that thay are at fault, reply with your figure and go from there.

    They're wrong.

The requirement for side facing windows on the first floor or above is that they are either situated 1.7 metres above floor height OR that they are obscured glazed.

Bear in mind for overlooking, the required distance between house increases with each floor. Different authorities have different rules, but in mine as a n example, it's 21 metres for two storey houses and 27 metres for two storey. The distance is also increased if the land is sloping.
