Misleading information on hotel description

Options
We went on our honeymoon in October to the blue sea interpalace in Tenerife and at the time of booking we was told we needed to arrange our own transfers from the airport to this hotel, having not been to Tenerife before and reading the description of the hotel (which I’ve attatched a screenshot of)
It clearly states the hotel was 25km from the islands airport so we planned our transfers on this description and being as we was landing at 10:30pm a taxi was our best option for price and getting to the hotel quickly to relax after our flight but when we got talking to another passenger on the plain to where we was stopping they told us to check our distance from the airport and when doing so we was actually not the 25km as described but in fact 90km and this significantly increased the price of the transfer in taxi and would use half of the spending money we had taken with us and the money we had planned to use for other activities and treats so to cut the cost we forced to look at another transfer option and even tho it was a lot more than planned the alternative to a taxi was hiring a car something I wasn’t keen on doing as we was on our honeymoon to relax and hiring a car to use on unfamiliar roads added unneeded stress to our holiday but was the cheapest option without using half our spending money, but was still more money than we’d planned to use on transfers this was all down to misleading information on the teletext holiday description as they say they are describing it from the south airport (but it doesn’t say that in the description)
No uk tour operator uses the south airport so my argument is why mention an airport which you don’t use or that your flight won’t land at ? It’s misleading and they talk about the airport in the description like there’s only the one on the island so to someone unfamiliar with the island makes it sound more misleading

Search the teletext holiday website for the blue sea interpalace and read the hotel description where it clearly says “only 25km from the islands airport”

You're confused about something. The website explicitly says it's 25,2 to the North airport which is correct according to Google Maps. Presumably you flew into South but several airlines (Ryanair, Norwegian, Vueling, etc) use the North airport. Check these things out on Google Maps in advance, it takes less than 2 minutes.

Hi Gazp, as a new user you will not be able to add screenshots. I don't think the holiday company have done anything legally wrong. Factually they were probably correct. Another ploy holiday companies use is that they base the distance "as the crow flies" which is meaningless if there are lots of mountains to get over.
At least you will know next time you book a holiday to double check this information yourself. In fact it's very simple to book a holiday to Tenerife yourself. The hotel you mention is on booking.com and you can go direct to tui or Flybe or whoever flies to Tenerife and book flights.
  • I agree that this is a very misleading statement. Tenerife North airport is really only used by Spanish carriers, and most airlines only use the main southern airport (Reina Sofia). Have you challenged Teletext holidays about this? I get the impression that there are a lot of complaints about this company by the way.

Instead of having "Distance from Tenerife North Airport: 25.2km " it would probably have been useful to have the Distance to Tenerife south airport also (I guess the OP may have thought there was only one airport)
    other sites show
    onthebeach - Distance from Airport
It is 26km from Tenerife North Airport and 90km from Tenerife South Airport to the hotel.
love holidays - Tenerife Norte Airport 25 minutes
Tenerife Sur Airport 1 hour 30 minutes
The hotels own website shows distance from North Airport only
With no direct flights from UK to TFN it would have been an indirect flight with transfer to get closer to the hotel (maybe a hotel in the south would have been better)

The Teletext Holidays website has two references to distance from airport, under Location it states "only 25kms from the island's airport". Further down the page, under other information, it states "Distance from Tenerife North Airport: 25.2km". They also show a Google map with location.

Unfortunately I think you may have to put this down to a (somewhat expensive) lesson to learn about research in the future. It seems you've been in touch with Teletext already, you could maybe try speaking to them again to see if you can get a good will gesture. However they are not known for good customer service, and to be honest they probably haven't broken any rules.

If your budget was tight, it would have been more economical to book a taxi online before travel. If you had priced that up it would have highlighted the much longer distance before travel.

I always research carefully before booking. Everything you need to know is available online via websites such as Trip Advisor.

it would only be misleading if they solely aimed their hotel at the UK market, perhaps other nationalities stay there too, who would use TFN ?
