From what you have said, it sounds like the router is not getting the DNS server IP's. You have not said who your ISP is but you should be able to find out what their DNS server IP addresses are (Google) and enter them manually into your router. I'm not famillair with Belkin routers but it will be in the manual.

    Thanks.

    My ISP is UWClub.net

I've googled for it but tbh I don't have a clue what I am supposed to be looking for! :o

I have looked on the Utility Wharehouse website and can see no sign of DNS addresses on their rather useless support pages!

One thing that you could try is to use OpenDNS, who provide ISP independent DNS servers for anyone to use. More info here and specifically how to configure a Belkin router here.

  • Thanks for all your help!
I emailed my ISP for details and got a reply this morning!

I had set it up as PPPoE and it should have been PPPoA!
No idea what the difference is, but it works!

Now I need to secure the network by encryption, etc?
Oo-er he we go again.... lol

Do I get the internet connection on all PCs and laptops first and then set about the encryption process please?

Sorry, I am really thick when it comes to stuff like this.

I appreciate everyone's help so far.
    Thank you

To encrypt your wireless connection, you should change the SSID (network name) to something unique but not anything that identifies you.

Get yourself a long random passphrase from here and save it to a notepad file so that it can be copied and pasted into your router/PC's when required.

Select the WPA-PSK encryption option in the router.

When you try to connect to your changed SSID over wireless, you will need to enter the saved string from the notepad file.

    That's it basically.

If I remember correctly, the Nintendo DS can only handle 64 bit WEP encryption, which is much less secure than WPA-PSK. So basically you can connect the DS if you change to WEP but this can be hacked relatively easily by anyone who wants to gain access to your network. The choice is yours, satisfy your son or a secure network!
