It may not be what you are after but my one outlet modem just goes into a 5 output hub (or switch). These are just a few quid.
Further on in the house is another hub. At the moment I have 3 computers and an XBox 360 running and nothing is slow. They are all connected by ethernet cable.
It's a very cheap and very secure way of connecting things...but it means cable.

    Hi me again!
Bought a Belkin Wireless G+ MIMO Modem Router & USB Adaptor today.
Started installing the modem on main PC when it asked for the USB adaptor to be inserted.
We opened the box for the adapter and it says "Run Installation disc before inserting adaptor".

    2 questions please:
Which PC do we insert the USB adpator? The main PC or the 2nd PC which is where it will remain?
Same for the adaptor CD - which PC do we install that on and do we need to install that BEFORE inserting the adaptor like it says?

    Sorry for all the questions.
Also it came up on screen various set up choices - hubby didn't write them down, but recalls something along the lines of POPOE and about 5 other choices????
    Which do we select please?

I cannot find a record of my ISP password so cannot go any further until I call them tomorrow but wondered if anyone can help me with these questions tonight please?

    Many thanks for your time.

  • Hello all, I've got a question running on the 'I wanna' thread which i think is probably the wrong place and have found this thread very useful in answering some of my questions so thanks very much. Could I just ask whether this router would be ok for a wii and xbox360 and would I need any other kit? With the xbox would I need the £69 thingy they sell for connecting to the internet? We've got digital broadband through a virgin set-top box, would I connect the router here or to the main pc? Thanks again and sorry to be so ill-informed!

    Hi me again!

Started installing the modem on main PC when it asked for the USB adaptor to be inserted.

There is nothing to install on your main PC as no drivers are required when using Ethernet.

We opened the box for the adapter and it says "Run Installation disc before inserting adaptor".

Drivers should be installed before inserting the USB dongle.

    2 questions please:
Which PC do we insert the USB adpator? The main PC or the 2nd PC which is where it will remain?

Basically you should get the router working first as a direct replacement for your modem. Then move on to connecting the other PC's either using Ethernet of wireless. If you connect the router to your PC, you can configure it and then disconnect the phone line from the modem and then connect it to the router.

Same for the adaptor CD - which PC do we install that on and do we need to install that BEFORE inserting the adaptor like it says?

Install drivers first on the PC that you wish to use the adaptor on (sons) after getting the router working as a replacement for your modem.

Depends on your ISP but normally the default settings will be fine.

  • Thanks for your reply.
Well I've got the connection working through the router but I think I must have done something wrong when I configured it as it is dreadfully slow.
I am back on the modem again.:o

At the moment my modem speed is 2.1 Mbps (this can vary between 1 and 2.9 Mbps).
    I have checked The Control Panel on my Network Connections, and under "LAN or High Speed Internet" I have 2 icons;

Local Area Connection - connected, if I view the status it says 100.0 Mbps

    1394 Connection - connected, 400.0 Mbps

What have I done wrong please?

    Thank you.

  • Waaaaaaaaaaay slower than a modem - seems like my dial up days!
Off to bed now but will check speeds on that site tomorrow and post back here.
    Many thanks.

  • Just did the speed test for my B/B modem:

    Download speed: 1461 kbps
    Upload speed: 367 kps

Will do the router ones tomorrow.

    Thanks again.
    Night all.

  • Okay, using the router this morning and the speeds on the test are virtually the same as with my modem, but they aren't as fast in reality.
The pages DO take much longer to load!

    1438 kbps download
    373 kbps upload

Checking for emails is as fast as usual. Maybe I need to enable/disable something in my Internet options????

    Help!!! Please.

Nor tried it on my sons PC or the laptop.

From what you have said, it sounds like the router is not getting the DNS server IP's. You have not said who your ISP is but you should be able to find out what their DNS server IP addresses are (Google) and enter them manually into your router. I'm not famillair with Belkin routers but it will be in the manual.
