  • I have searched for "laser surgery risks" on google and have chickened off !!
I am not taking a .1 per cent chance of becoming blind, even in one eye. What if I win the lottery? :D
Good luck and hope things go well for you. Lasik surgery is quite new and no long term research findings are available.
I have also read that some people may rely on their myopia to read or may need less strong reading glasses ;)
  • I'm Emma Reid, the lady in the story (in the Sunday Mail). I would not touch Optimax with a barge-pole. They are very unprofessional. I now have a solicitor dealing with the matter. After undergoing botched surgery in one of my eyes at the Aberdeen Optimax Clinic, I now can no longer wear a contact lens in my right eye and am scarred for life because of them. The treatment I have had from Optimax is disgusting! I have been told that the scar on my eye can be rectified if I have laser eye surgery with Optimax again and the chances of the same thing happening again are minimal. Of course, I would never let that company near my eyes again. I took went to Optimax via ebay. They are completely unprofessional. Think very carefully before having laser eye surgery!!!!!
  • What's wrong with wearing spectacles, contact lenses or permanent contact lenses (which is much much safer than laser surgery).
One of the advice, if you decide to go for laser surgery, is to ask stupid questions :D like:
how experienced are you? How many patients have you successfully treated etc

offered the chance to have the problem rectified
I usually don't like to same mechanic who messed with my car to rectify the problem, guess about my eye :D
  • can you have it done with a +4.25 perscription?
or is it just with -
  • I had both my eyes done by Optimax in Glasgow and I only have good things to say about them. Yes there is always risks and you will always hear about the people who are unhappy in the press more than the people who are happy.

I would recommend it to anyone.
  • There is a slightly greater risk in having a + corrected rather than -

This is an interesting thread indicated by the amount of folk that have viewed it.
I have a colleague at work who had Lasik done earlier in the year in the Peterborough branch and she is full of praise for the techniqiue and result.

What caught her eye :rotfl: was the low cost of the package of £895 both eyes, this wasn't the whole truth because she had to have wavefront which bumped the price up by another £700. So if you go into this (I am contemplating myself with the benefit of a colleagues experience and knowledge) Go into it with your eyes :rotfl: and mind open because it could easily cost you nearer £2000 which could deflate most hopeful peeps :o

I had the procedure done April last year. I looked at the statistics and decided the probable benefits outweighed the very minimal chance of complications. Any surgical procedure carries these minimal risks. My procedure had the best possible outcome and I would do it again in a heartbeat, but have never suggested to anyone that they have it done - this is only something they can decide themselves after looking at all the information available.
  • Believe it or not I was advised not to waste my money on wavefront as it would not benefit me greatly. I took it from this that they were not out to just make a quick buck as they could have just told me i needed it.

As it happens I took the wavefront anyway as even if it would only benefit me slightly (if at all) there n i though it was worth while if i had the money, which i did.

I had my eyes done with Lasik (UltraLase) about 7 years ago. BEST decision I ever made. Several friends of mine have had it done as well. Even if it doesn't last for ever, I have had the past 7 years with no glasses, prescription glasses, contact lens and just the general pain in the ar&e of it all.
