Nationwide Upgrade

Options
I tried to upgrade my Nationwide basic account to a full account by switching my other TSB account based on the wording on their website:

Switch to Nationwide so that I become a main current account member1
1 How to qualify as a main current account member
To get access to Flexclusive offers you must either:
1) Hold a FlexOne, FlexStudent, FlexGraduate, FlexDirect or FlexPlus account

I am arguing that the wording above implies that if I switch, I will become a main current account holder.

Can I have everyone's thoughts please?

  • You can't upgrade by switching.

You need to switch to a new "upgraded" account or upgrade the account you have manually
  • I appreciate that now, but after reading the above, I thought you could. They said no. I complained that it was very ambiguous, I am asking if people agree that the wording could be misleading and could be worded better.

Like eskbanker, I can't find the text you refer to on Nationwide's website. However, I have found this similar text:

    "Eligibility
To qualify for all of our flexclusive benefits you must be a main current account member with us, although you can access our low rate loan if you have a mortgage or savings account instead.
To be a member with a main current account, you must:
Hold a FlexOne, FlexStudent, FlexGraduate, FlexDirect or FlexPlus account

    or

    Hold a FlexAccount and:

have been paying in £750+ a month for the last 3 months (excluding transfers from any Nationwide account held by you or anyone else); or
completed an account switch to us (from a non-Nationwide account) using our Current Account Switch Team in the last 4 months."
    https://www.nationwide.co.uk/support/support-articles/services/simply-rewards/member-benefits

So, if you already hold a FlexAccount and switched from your TSB account to Nationwide in the last four months using Nationwide's Current Account Switch Team then you should be entitled to Flexclusive benefits. Whether this is the same as upgrading your account in the sense you mean, I don't know.

No as I read it it means you have have one of the accounts listed to be a main current account holder.

Not you will be upgraded when you switch an account to us.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.
  • It reads, 'switch so Nationwide so that I become a main current account member' - to me that implies if I switch, I become a main current account member.

It then lists what account you need - this is a dubious part

Yes, if you switch you will become a main current account member. But (as has been said before) you can't switch into a basic account and thereby upgrade it. You must upgrade your basic account first and then switch.

Simply stating "if you switch you will become a main current account member" doesn't imply any extension to the normal account switching rules. It doesn't (for example) imply that you can switch a joint account into a sole name account.
  • It's not dubious or misleading.

You're just not reading it right.

You do not get an account upgrade by switching an account to them
  • I think we have established that you do not get an account upgrade by switching, but thanks.

Your are missing my point. I am saying it reads ‘SWITCH TO US so that I BECOME a MAIN CURRENT ACCOUNT MEMBER’

It then lists the main current accounts.

    It’s ambiguous.
