O/S Daily Thursday 10th January 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black here, cold and frosty.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now going to work too, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him to go for a run shortly.

Dinner last night was a naughty egg, bacon, sausage, hash browns, mushrooms and beans - lovely it was! Tonight I'm not sure what we will be having, but need to sort it at some point today.

Work yesterday was quieter but we have a few ongoing repeat customers that need dealing with and it's likely that this could cause some difficulties at some point - long back story! I'll be updated when I return to work on Monday I'm sure.

I'm now on days' off apart from training this morning, then I need to crack on with my "to do" list. I'll be trying to get as much done as possible.

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone :hello:
Thank you nmlc for starting us off. I'm a bit tired as I didn't get as much sleep as I needed but will definitely go back to bed this afternoon. I have the district nurse coming round this morning to change the dressings on my legs so I need to be conscious for that :).

We are minding the grandchildren after school today so I will organise some dinner for them. Yet again I have lost track of what is in the freezer so I will send Lee out to freezer dip later on. I am pretty sure there are some kiev type things they would like. I can't wait to see the grandchildren today, they always make me feel happy.

Apart from a persistant dry cough I feel a lot better. The water tablets are doing their stuff and my legs don't feel so stiff and sore. I am hoping to hear from my GP today about what happens next. I also messaged my local mental health team a couple of days ago but have yet to hear anything from them.

My poor Lilly had a root canal treatment yesterday and her face was all swollen. I saw her in the early hours and she was starting to feel better so she is going in to college this morning for a couple of hours. Lee is home with me and Phoebe is too I think unless work calls her in to cover for someone. I am happy about this as I hate being on my own. I was surprised how vulnerable I felt being alone when everyone was at work/college. I will need to try and get used to it though as I can't be babysat for ever.

Here are a load of hugs for all the poorlies and fed up people. Snoozer, I hope Steve's treatment goes really well and the drugs give him a great quality of life. Must be scary though for the both of you to go through this xx

taff, hope you are feeling a little better today xx

I am off to put the heating on as it is freezing in here. I have one of those heated throws too so I shall plug myself in till the house warms up. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Good morning,

Dumpling I'm glad that you're starting to feel better with the correct medication.

Snoozer good luck to Steve for the start of his treatment.

Granny dp good news that the baba is doing well and I hope her mummy gets a snuggle soon.

I'm still coughing although I expected to have a streaming cold by now and I haven't. Not sure if it's just taking it's time to materialise or what. I've one more hat to knit and then I can concentrate on making a few more trauma teddies and some baby cardigans for my great nephew that is due in May.

I'm making barbecue pulled pork wraps for our dinner tonight as it's a HT favourite and easy to do when I'm not feeling great. I don't have to be anywhere else today and I can't visit my friend because I'm ill so a nice easy day with just a bit of cleaning (only the bathroom - I did the rest of upstairs yesterday). I also lost my one pound target at fat class. Slowly does it :D

Take care all of you :)

    Morning :)

Quiet in here this morning hope everyone is getting a good sleep :)
Slept pretty well myself although I am still bugged by nasty little dreams ...my brain is not a happy bunny.

Dentist wasn't too bad although she wants to sort a small crack before it gets worse which is fine by me so its back in a couple of weeks. Very disappointed with Greggs they had no slices ready at all so I had a sausage roll then nipped to Waterfields next door and had one of their meat and potato slices, think I may have preferred it so bye Greggs. Lasted me all day hunger wise but of course with that many calories so it should :o

Bits of work today then lunch with a friend getting lots of vouchers sent through so I think today will be 50 % off an already reasonable price meal.

Nothing much else occurring so have a good day all if you can

    Good morning all.

For some reason I slept for longer, only an hour but it surprised me when I realised the time was 7.30.

Last night I felt as if I were ancient, wrapped up in my electric throw with my feet up in my recliner. :rotfl::rotfl:Still, I was so cosy I don't care.

My DM received a phone message, on her landline, which appeared to come from the NHS. She's deaf so can't hear on the phone but became very anxious and decided that she would pack her hospital bag in case someone turned up to take her somewhere / anywhere. I tried to explain that that wouldn't happen but she felt better for having done it. I ended up ringing her from mobile to mobile as she played the voicemail to me. :rotfl::rotfl: The message was ring the hospital to make an appointment!

Now I have to pack my bag for Glasgow. My long lost Thursday student is back after a long absence so I'll not be able to go until 4pm.

I hope everyone has a happy Thursday.
  • Good morning everyone,

    I can't quite believe it's Thursday already.

Yesterday I had football training although I was 15 minutes late as I couldn't find the place!! I'm still getting used to the area and I had no idea where I was. My phone maps and my cars sat nav were telling me 2 different places, I even had to stop and ask a guy walking his dog. Anyway, I found it and I will know for next time.

I tried a Jamie Oliver recipe for 1, chicken and butternut squash and it was average. Tonight's dinner is sweet potato, bacon and kale hash, Another new recipe so goodness knows how that will turn out.. I've been cutting out all the bad (tasty) sugary stuff that I adore so much and I'm craving it so much. It's actually my determination not to ruin a NSD which has stopped me. I've then got another game of football 9-10 tonight and not much else planned.

    Today is NSD 7/17!

Dumpling - How have your legs been of late, I've been meaning to ask?
    Cranky - Well done!!!
Gers - That's a shame about your DM but good on her for getting organised nonetheless. Safe travels.

Good morning everyone, I was awake at 5.00am again and sorted out the kitchen... then back to bed with a cuppa and I've been coaxing along my rather elderly laptop since then. I normally use my phone these days for internet browsing using the home wifi, but the laptop needs some maintenance, and before I put in in to be looked at I want to back up some files.

Snoozer , wishing you and Steve all the best for his forthcoming treatment. I'll be keeping both of you in my thoughts.

I enjoyed my visitors yesterday but will be glad of a quieter day today, just getting the computer files copied to a USB drive and a swim. Some laundry to be done too.

The veg box came yesterday and I've decided it's a leek dish for tonight's meal. Not sure quite what, but I'll google leeks and whatever else I have in the fridge, and see what recipe appeals to me.

Hugs to all poorlies and I hope everyone has the best day possible. xxx

Didn't get on yesterday as DS went out on his bike early and managed to get knocked off it by a van cue a hospital visit luckily he just needed to have some cuts glued at one point they suspected a cracked elbow but luckily the orthopaedic SHO over ruled the nurse practitioner so not too bad he was just a bit shaken up the guy refused to give details but luckily DS took a lot of pics on his mobile and we were able to track the company down today we need to start his claim for some damaged bits on the bike and a new helmet we will have to take the bike for an inspection as well just to be sure we haven't missed anything
Right I will be walking Dolly in a bit boy it looks cold and frosty this morning so we will be wrapped up well then i need to do some washing and start cleaning the house for the weekend when the happy couple return. Dinner is beef olives mash veg

    The Road Traffic Act

Under the Road Traffic Act (1988) the rules are simple.

If you’re driving a motorised vehicle and are involved in an accident which causes damage or injury to another person, vehicle, property or animal, (including dogs, horses, cattle and sheep), you must stop and give your vehicle registration along with your name and address to “anyone with reasonable grounds to be asking for those details”.

In most cases this will be the other driver. And if you’re not the vehicle owner, you should hand over the vehicle owner’s details too.

“If you don’t exchange details at the scene, you must report the incident to the police within 24 hours”, says motoring lawyer Alison Ashworth from Ashworth Motoring Law.

“The problem is there’s often confusion over what people perceive to be an accident," she says.

Ashworth says she sees, “an increasing number of court cases for things like ‘a clipped wing mirror’, which people may not consider as an accident, but if they fail to stop, the penalty can be severe."

    Don’t get caught out

If you don’t exchange details at the scene, or report the incident to the police, it could look like you’ve failed to stop.

This, according to Ashworth, could potentially incur two offences: “failure to stop”, and “failure to report an accident”.

Both can mean a minimum five points on your licence, a fine, or in the worst case scenario, a prison sentence.
