Washing Machine Smells

Good morning
I just wondered if anyone has any advice on what I can do to stop my washing machine from smelling. It is making the washing smell if I don't take it out straight away & I have to leave the door open cos if shut for any length it stinks the kitchen out (don't I paint a lovely picture) I have tried putting bleach in it but it didn't work.
Thanks A

Hi
This was happening to me.
I found Milton sterilising tablets on a hot wash in an empty machine (of course) did the trick and I also changed from NoN Bio powder to Biological powder...something to do with the enzymes I think...I now have a stink free machine!!!
Give it a go
Cheers

I'm gonna chuck some vinegar on a boil wash.

we just do an empty wash every so often. cleans out all the soap and any gunky stuff.
also make sure your drain is clear outside.Get some gorm.0 -
Agree with the above, and it works with dish washers too. It beats the tablets you can get for keeping your machine clean.0

If you regularly wash on low temperatures then, going by washing machine directions I have, you should place some washing powder in an empty drum and run it on the highest temp you can once a month to clear the pipes and melt any gunk etc and keep it smelling sweet, puting in soda crystals would be a good idea too. Keep the door a little open between washes once you sort the smell out so that air circulates in the drum and stops any nasty niffs.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0

Hi,
I wouldn't put vinegar in the machine. I read a post a while back from a washing machine engineer who advised against it as it could harm the machine. I briefly had this problem when I tried washing at lower temperatures, but then found I had to regularly do a boil wash to keep the machine fresh and clear, so decided not to bother and now wash at higher temperatures again and all is fine.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)
