  • Thanks all for the ideas,

I'm guessing its fairly recent and all the online services I've looked at don't have information from recent years. Ancestry is up to 2005 and freebmd is up to 1992? I know the death was in the last year and the marriage I'm not sure about, at some point within the last 10 years maybe.

I have an Ancestry sub and the death records go up to 2017 and the marriage records to 2005.

I'm happy to do a lookup if you want. Send me a PM.

    :)

Not the actual GRO indexes - from 2007-2017 all they have is data from "Greypower Deceased Data" an unofficial database which is sourced from funeral directors and obituary notices mainly and claims to have about 55% coverage. You may find the person listed there, which would confirm when/where they died, but it would still need a call to the right registration office to get a certificate.

but depends what info the OP needs.
  • Not sure about the rest of the UK, but in NI it is customary to post a death notice/funeral notice in the local papers, most will mention names of spouse, children, close relatives. These are searchable online under funeraltimes.com
If the rest of the UK has something similar, it might get you the name of the spouse, then you can do further research from that point
