Bad tenancy.

Hi I just wanted to post this thread about a nightmarish experience I have had in my old flat which I have just recently moved out of. It was a block of flats with a communal hallway area. During the time I lived in there I was assaulted and beaten up by another tenant. Also I have had many things go missing from my flat.
It started at the begging of last year when I had £200 stolen from my wallet. I have also had many other things go missing and damaged from within my flat including my phone screen, camera screen, both of my guitars were damaged and left with holes in them including my £5000 stratocaster. During the week I moved out which was last week I had important banking documents stolen including my pin number and also my checkbook. I could go on with other long list of complaints including having to put up with extremely bad sound insulation and having to hear the frequency of my other neighbors sex life which was everyday etc.
Is there anyway I can warn other people from moving into this flat now that I'm gone? Apparently the previous tenant who lived there killed himself and I also tried to commit suicide through an overdose when I was living there. Just an overall horrible experience and I just wanted to post this somewhere.

Also I have had many things go missing from my flat. - And you informed the police, gave a statement etc.; And changed the locks?

Sorry. No.
1: I don't believe this.
2: On the off chance I'm wrong. None of this is actionable. You clearly took no steps to protect your property.
3: I don't believe for a second that this has anything to do with 'warning' people.0 -
I took steps to protect my property I changed the locks on my door after money was stolen and the same problems kept happening.0

So you were damaging your own property?
There is no other alternative; if you changed the locks...0 -
So who do you hold to blame....other tenants, the LL?
I assume you contacted the police and reported the crimes against you.
Not sure what you hope to achieve by naming and shaming a particular flat, block of flats or area.
As much as it sounds bad, many properties all over the country by the law of averages have probably experienced a death within or indeed a birth by the shear nature of the fact that life happens.
Put the whole experience of living there behind you now, you've moved on to hopefully somewhere where you will be a lot happierin S 38 T 2 F 50

Not sure what you're saying. How were these people getting in? Was the lock damaged? I'm getting the impression you aren't saying you were 'unlucky with a lot of break-ins' but that you are implying it might have been another occupier in the block. Is that right, or do you think you were unlucky?libertyhunter wrote: »I took steps to protect my property I changed the locks on my door after money was stolen and the same problems kept happening.
Really not sure how it's the block's fault. Surely it's just a case of your flat being broken into. My mum's been burgled several times. I can't imagine her wanting to warn future owners!
PS Just realised you were renting it - although it doesn't make any difference to my reply.

PPS NEVER write your PIN down!
If someone stole the card and letter from the bank from a shared mailbox they would have the PIN written on the letterSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Although its my understanding that the card an pin should be sent separately to arrive separately...so maybe you should make sure you collect your post daily if its a shared box.
Do people in blocks of flats still have shared boxes?
Its very easy to get individual boxes with a secure key that only the flat occupier will have access to.
In the case of pin and cards if you have a shared box you can always request that correspondence is kept at your bank branch and you collect it when needed.in S 38 T 2 F 50

And usually these days some additional security requirement to activate the card.need_an_answer wrote: »Although its my understanding that the card an pin should be sent separately to arrive separately
Some do, some don't. Pretty common where I am for flats to be converted houses, with all post going through the original front door letterbox and divvied up by the residents.Do people in blocks of flats still have shared boxes?0 -
Ah, see what you mean (although agree with below that they're not sent together, but could still both have been intercepted). Had presumed the OP meant from inside the flat.If someone stole the card and letter from the bank from a shared mailbox they would have the PIN written on the letter2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
Hi just wanted to clarify that I didnt write my pin down it came in a letter that i opened left in my flat locked up then it was gone when I came back. My suspicions are that it is a resident in the flat as i got in a fight with the person who was living above me and ever since things have been going missing from my flat. Also my emails social media accounts have been hacked into etc. Basically my life has been ruined whilst living in there and I went back one last time to my flat today to find another item missing. I have reported the stolen cash to the police at the time it went missing but no evidence so nothing could be done as last resort just moved all my stuff out and moving on with my life as best I can0
