It's a combination of don't care & rake in the advertising revenue. Facebook, newspapers , google, all seem happy to host these outright scams. They might make a cursory attempt to stop them but when the publicity dies down it seems they ignore it again.
Remember this on any other ads or articles you read.

Thing is that really bugs me, its offensive just how these organisations operate on a lip service basis only.

I kind of understand that there are always going to be scammers and people trying to cheat people out of money - that is part of the world and has always been. But for these companies to do so little to stop their platforms/websites being used is offensive and shows just how little regard they have for anything but money.

I couldnt run my business in any such way, yes, objective is business survival/thriving but only in a moral way.

Very true. I said as much to Trustnet (currently hosting heavyweight ads for this particular scam) just yesterday.

most scams are blatently obvious but people still fall for them. The authorities are usually years behind in dealing with these things. However, some will never end because the perpetrators are often based overseas or they use companies that start up, scam for a period and shut down before they get on the radar of the authorities. Then they start again.

There is a theory that some ads deliberately and "obviously" look like a scam so that only the most stupid/gullible fall for them. That way they can cut out 90% of the people who would drop out of a purchase later on when they twig its a scam, and only deal with the real dimwits, or those perhaps too clever for their own good who employ a reverse thought mechanism eg "well it obviously looks fake but its still there so it actually cant be fake so it must be real".

And the issue with that "reasoning" is, (a) if it was so good there'd be no need to advertise as those running it would take all the profits themselves, and (b) they trust the corporations running the adverts. Whereas the latter are only marginally less a bunch of crooks than the crooks. Or perhaps more so, since they make money from the crooks.
  • I’ve been a silly girl. And have now lost over £100,000!
After complaining to the company they have offered a ‘goodwill gesture’ of £7,000 and are giving me 7 days to decide if I want to take it.
    Any advice would be great

If it's one of these scam sites, probably best to walk away completely rather than let them rope you into the next scam. It's an eye watering sum to lose but the reality is the money is already lost.

Pull the other one. You lost money through your own fault and some company is going to give you £7000 that they don't need to, purely out of the goodness of their hearts?

Generally if someone offers you thousands of pounds purely as a goodwill gesture while saying they are not at all in the wrong, they are hoping your greed will make you take the money rather than pursuing them for a much larger amount that they might need to pay you if they were found to be guilty of something, or the potential damage to their business if you went to the media.

What do you have to do to 'take' the £7000? Promise not to complain about them and agree not to disclose to anyone that they paid you off and and stop seeking criminal or civil law remedies for the scam or fraud?

Or is the £7000 paid as account credit that you can only access by giving them more of your own money? That (making you pay money on the way to a promised payout, and then you lose more money to the fraud or scam) is not an uncommon common scam.
