What other technology is there? For a thin TV there's only LCD so far which is a much newer technology and therefore not as developed and there are advantages to both plasma and LCD in different areas. So what do you mean by compromised?

They are thinner, lighter and more robust, which makes them much easier to move around. For those with ecological concerns, LCDs use little power, whereas plasma screens use lots. Further, an LCD should last roughly twice as long as a plasma screen, which may have a "half life" of only 30,000 to 40,000 hours. (The "half life" is when the screen has degraded to half its brightness, and you may well throw it away.)
If you want a really big wall-mounted screen and money is no object, go for plasma.Happy chappy0 -

 . The same old "problems" and myths that affected plasma when it first came out. Not today though. The power consumption statement is a ridiculous hyperbole not based on any figures (plasma's power consumption is variable with picture whereas LCD runs at a constant high power due to the backlight, it's ridiculous to make an absolute statement on power comparison when the measured power depends on different variables that are ignored). The max wattage of a plasma may be higher but it doesn't run at the max wattage whereas LCD runs at it's max wattage all the time. So exactly what is being compared? How do you guage the typical wattage of a plasma? Plasma uses no more power per inch than a CRT. Plasma on average is likely to use more than LCD but it's not the vast difference that's implied and the oversimplification.
Even if that lifetime figure was true for modern plasmas, that's over ten years if you had it switched on 8 hours a day, seven days a week!
Currently, lifetime of plasmas recently increased from 60,000 hours to 100,000 hours. The article you linked is way out of date."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Most decent plasma screens will have pixel rotation technology to avoid screen burn, and some high profile TV vendors no longer offer plasma just LCD.

I contacted Hitachi (my plasma) about this issue and asked for any advice on screen burn in. How long can logos be on screen etc. On their website it states see FAQ for screen burn in issues, but there was no FAQ on this subject!
A great reply was "All our TV's come with a 12month warranty". Cracking Hitachi, thanks for the advice. :T:think: Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?

yes lets all sign a useless petition - they won't bat an eye at it. If. you want to make a difference (and at the same time protect your screen) don't watch that particular chanel0

Sorry but the OP asked for a petition - I pointed him to one which already has substantial support. People can also write to broadcasters
It is daft to say only watch undogged channels- all sport for example is dogged0 -

It's not daft - pointing someone towards a petition that has been running for 5 years with no effect is daft. If people boycott a station because of something then they will lose revenue (if they have advertisers) and wonder why - far more effective than some online petition.0
