If your daughter thinks your son's being bullied (physically or via social media) then I would get in contact with the school and/or the police.

What makes her think she is so much more tech savvy than her son that he won't be able to disable any app that she puts on it if he doesn't want his social media to be seen? The answer to this is not a technical one, it is to improve her relationship with her son so that she can ask him and he will agree to show her.0

I know you both mean well but I do wish people would answer the question, we have considered other options and come to the conclusion this is how we want to proceed

Thank you

Leaving aside the legality or morality of what you are proposing it seems to me any such app would rely on location services being enabled (and not easy to disable) for the app concerned.
Google maps is perfectly capable of logging the phone's every move if you let it. Obviously you could insist on having access the the child's social media accounts as a condition of funding their smartphone but I assume you are wanting to do this covertly? I too do not think that approach is morally right and I am not sure it is even legal.0 -
OP you can only track the phones movements, not what has been said and done.0

There is nothing wrong providing the "sprogs" are aware you are doing it!
If a teenager goes to the doctor there are only the most strictly limited circumstances under which the doctor will tell the parents without the child's consent.0 -

If she intends to do this without the consent of the person that uses the phone, I recommend she read the "Computer Misuse Act" and the "Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act" and decides if the penalties in them are sufficient to deter her from this course of action, or not.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

Quite!
Even if the OP's daughter's motives are good (which I am sure they are) where do you draw the line once you start to go down this road?0 -
Undervalued I asked a question is not up for discussion we've made our decision. If people don't know the answer that's fine but all I wanted was an answer to my question.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0
