How do you find out if he had a will if she is acting administrator/ executor?
If you know that he used a particular solisitor you could check with them, but other than that there is little you can do.
Mind you if he had made a will it would have been sensible to make his children executors and let them know he had done so.
It does sound like the only real company assets were himself, so my theory about the estate being worth millions way off.0 -
Thanks, that really help with some ideas.0

It was lots of odd jobs.
It could be big contracts in painting and cleaning of communal areas and windows in low rise flats and offices.
Changing light bulbs, locks, doors, fuses. Picking up rubbish for the tip,
General up keep of buildings.
Often he would use contractors to do the biggest jobs and do the little run around jobs himself.0 -
They are Ltd companies and I don’t think he had any assets other than the tools he had. Which ain’t much. The biggest tool he has is a 110v Bosch jack hammer.

What makes you think these business were paying £60k in tax0 -
And keep checking here to see if there has been a grant and maybe copy Will if there was one.
When you order a copy of the grant I am not sure if that also reveals the gross/net value of the estate.

Hi Tom. I shall try that. In your opinion, it has only been a month since he passed. Would it be too soon to check to see if a record exists? It costs £10 to apply!
My step mum is pretty shrewd and savvy and seems to be getting stuff done really quickly. She’s almost cleared all my dads stuff away already. All that is left is his tools and dvds. She scrapped a Jaguar s type from the 60,s and wants to scrap a fully working land rover from 2002 with only 60,000 on the clock. Today she is getting 2 dogs put to sleep. Only took her a month to what seems like she starved them to illness.
Maybe I should just pay the £10.0 -

Checking is free so do it as often as you like. £10 is for a copy of the Grant and Will if there is one.0 -
