You can arrange to install your own electric meter so I would suspect that you can employ a private qualified electrician to remove it. Then inform the supplier. Business users seem to have inflated rates for this minor job
Scottish Power seem to always charge the most to install/remove meters.. They use to charge over £200 to just exchange a prepay for a credit meter..a twenty minute job.. OFGEM banned that practice

There is some truth in this post, but its quite misleading.
You can install a private meter...but you would still require aeither the supplier or the DNO to remove a credit meter. An electrician CANNOT remove a meter (owned by the supplier), they are authorised only to work on internal wiring, not on equipment owned by the supplier or the Distribution Network operator

Not according to British Gas Revenue Protection..I was informed that surprisingly there are no regulations which forbid installing your own electric and gas meters. That is the reason they cannot really stop all the new and second hand gas meters for sale on fleabay where most of them are used by occupiers in substituting their own prepay gas meters in illegal gas theft . Plenty of new electric meters for sale on websites too and used ones on fleabay occasionally
