Hello, just wanted to resurrect this thread as I'm in a very similar position to OP.

Think I'm going to go for a junior bed but wanted to ask those who have junior beds what do you do for bedding as it looks like a standard size single duvet would be miles too long (the bed I've chosen has both headboard and footboard, so not an option to let the duvet hang down to the floor). Cot bed bedding looks more of an option but possibly on the small side.

Any advice anyone? I notice that the Great Little Trading Company do a junior duvet but there isn't much of a choice of bedding designs, none of them match daughter's room.

Ooh, I'd forgotten about this thread! :) My little boy is actually still in the cot, as he doesn't seem to mind, but I think the move is going to happen in the next few weeks as he's so huge! :D

But yeah, I've been wondering about duvets, too! At the moment, we've got one from Argos, can't remember what it's called but it has jungle animals on it. I chose it because the junior bed in the Argos catalogue has it in the picture and it doesn't look too bad. I'm hoping it will do for some time but obviously I'll need to think of something else as this duvet is quite short (longer than normal cot blankets, but a lot shorter than a normal duvet).

Am looking forward to other ideas too! :)

    Hi Dormouse

Do you know if argos still do the one you have? I can't find anything on their website other than standard singles and a handful of cotbed quilts.

Cotbed duvets and quilts tend to be 100x120cm whereas the very few junior duvets I've found are 120x150cm which would be exactly right for the bed I like. Am contemplating making my own, but I'm rubbish at needlework. How hard can it be though.

We've just cracked toilet training and she is starting to ask to go to the toilet very early in the morning - so got to get her out of the cot asap with a potty by the bedside!!
  • We put our daughter straight into a normal sized single bed, and as she was in a grobag, put a brightly covered duvet folded up at the bottom of the bed to 'make' it shorter. Our daughter props all her toys up in a line against it so she can see them before going to sleep.

We also made sure she was involved in the dismantlling of her cot ('hold these screws for mummy etc. etc') then ensured she helped make up her new bed, choosing only her 'special' toys to go into the 'big girl's' bed with her. We also took some photos and paintings and decorated the walls near her head so that she was distracted from the 'new bed' thing. All in all, it seemed to work fine.

We do use a bed guard, and even though she is almost 3 now, still find her squashed against it most nights, so am reluctant to remove it just yet!

we put both of ours into a normal single bed straight from the cot and we used to put a quilt on the floor for if they fell out, think they only did this a couple of times b4 they stopped and not had any problems at all. they were both there when we took down the old cot and the rooms were big enough to take a bed as well so that was in their for the last few weeks b4 we got rid of their cots.

I am thinking about moving my 20mth old son out of his cot (cotbed) shortly. He uses growbags and I have bought some bigger size ones as I am planning on using them even when he is in the bed. He has had them since birth so hopefully it will be ok. He still seems happy in the cot but I think it might be time to move. Not sure really. He is a good climber but hasn't bothered getting out as he loves his bed and he is really little anyway.
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Purplepatc --- i think making the duvet covers youself is a great idea! You can take ur little one along to chose what type of material they like so its a special duvet for them.
It will also be alot cheaper than buying them from shops, and a lot more special!
It isnt that tricky to make, just cut to long bits to the correct size and sew inside out, buy some poppers or buttons to do it up and there ya go!

my dd(2.5) went into a bed 4 monthsago and we never used a bedguard....i personally didnt see the point at you then have the extra task later of teaching then to use the bed without it.in the whole 4 months she has only fallen out of bed once.
we have bunk beds from argos but as i was pregnant when my dd1 went into her bed(now have dd 2 who is 10 weeks) we bought ones that come apart into two single beds......they are normal sized. we havent a lot of money(in fact a lot of debt!) so wanted to go the whole hog and do everything at once and i can honestly say that at no point have i regretted not having a cotbed, junior bed or bedguard as i think they just would have been extra expense that wasnt really needed......for £129.99(with both matresses) we now have a bed for each dd....we just use a normal small tog duvet and normal pillow.
to those who still use a grobag ...i have these but stopped using it when got bed as i thought it would be dangerous.
we also have a stairgate on the bedroom door(a babydan walk through) as we cant get one on the top of our stairs andat 2.5 dd cant work out how to open it but to be honest never really tries.

my oldest could work our stair gate from an early age and we had one you had to push the button on either side, so we reinforced it with string son got through that, used dressing gown cord did not get throught that, instead climbed over stair gate using toys, he was a big of a nightmare so took stairgate away as felt it was more dangerous to be there.
