E.On sent a high Bill
Good afternoon,
In October 2017 we moved house, and contacted E.on to organise a new plan. It was agreed that we would be charged around £55 for unlimited usage. However today we have had a bill arrive at our door saying we owe them over £1400. My partner contacted them and they explained that the £55 was estimate. This is outrageous.... we were sent a statement in July saying we were in credit, if we owed them money why wasn't this stated on the statement then? Why are we only knowing about this now? They have at least three meter readings since then, they say they emailed us asking for more but we have had nothing. What can we do to get this resolved.

I'm not aware of any company who have an "unlimited use" tariff. It doesn't help much now but you can go online with EoN and a. give meter readings and b. adjust your direct debit.
If your DD was set at £55 per month that might not have been enough and some debt has built up.
If you had a statement in July then this is a pretty short time for a debt of this size to build up. I think the first thing I would do is read the meters, the second to make sure the latest bill is based on readings and not an estimate (the bill should have readings on that you can compare) and then contact EoN for more detail.0 -
As said above,
It's highly unlikely that you had an "unlimited" tariff, more probably it was a fixed tariff which means that the price of a unit of gas or leccy and the standing charge will not vary during the fixed period.
However you still have to pay for the number of units that you consume or the number of days you are being supplied by the company. use more you pay more.
You need to do as Giraffe suggests and check your starting meter readings to establish how much you've used and how much it should cost.
You do need to check your bills and statements and make sure that you send in regular meter readings (ideally every single month) otherwise neither you nor the supplying company know how much you've used and how much it's going to cost until the next time they get a reading.
That's when you find out that your DD hasn't been high enough and you get the very nasty surprise that you've just received.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
It comes down to your taiff(s) and your consumption. The latter being verified by your meter readings.
For EON to show you in credit in July and in debt now suggests meter readings were not being supplied in the first year.
I also moved to EON in Oct 2017, and renewed on a new deal with them in Oct 2p18. In a 2 bed flat using 7000 - 8000 kWh of gas and 2000 kWh of electricity, I paid £55 per month in the first year, got a small refund from EON at the end of the first year, and now pay £50. Readings every 3 months is all EON ask for, though I take monthly just to keep an eye on consumption.
You need to look at your meter readings and check these against the bills you've had, and the terms of the tariff(s) you agreed to.0 -
What action did you take in Sept/Oct 2017 when Eon emailed/wrote to you saying your fix (of tariff rate and standing charge - not the DD) was coming to an end.
Did you (a) transfer to a new Eon tariff, (b) use a comparison site with your actual consumptions to see if someone else could offer you a better deal or (b) nothing - and up on Eon's standard (ie expensive) rate ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Welcome to MSE.
I've been looking forward to you posting since August 2016, and am so glad you now have. Such a shame you couldn't hang around for a response
Can you please confirm the name of the Eon tariff you agreed to back in October 2017?
What was the term of the deal, if any? I'm pretty sure it would only have been for 12months.
What did the contract say regarding payment?
How can you be in credit if you agreed to pay £55 pm for whatever you used???
Are you suggesting, despite securing an amazing deal of just £55pm for whatever you used, you elected to pay more than £55pm???
It doesn't make sense, and Judge Judy has a saying about that
If you can draft a complaint that does make any sense, then follow the supplier's complaint procedure.
Contact the CAB if you need assistance in drafting a complaint (but they will need to understand it themselves if they are to assist you)0 -
I Want one PLEASE
