Question regarding PIP

Hello everyone,

I have just joined the forum having only come across this site over the weekend. Last week, I went for a PIP face to face consultation.

When I applied to claim PIP three months ago, I was sent a form to fill in & send back, along with any supporting documents. To sum up, everything I put on the form was/is true in terms of my mental health, mental health history, etc, etc. However, I wrote a letter pretending it was from my GP. I found it very hard to get appointments with my GP as there are so many patients are our surgery. Everything that was stated in the letter (supposed to be from my GP) was/is true.

Having gone to the face to face consultation, the lasy there said, “we know the letter is not from your doctor, & you may be reported for fraud”.

Please can someone tell me what happens now? Because I am worried sick. I realise it was a stupid mistake to make. However, as I’ve said the contents of it was/is true & if they actually do check my medical history out, there will see this for themselves.

Many thanks,

John

Why on earth would you write a letter pretending it was from your GP? I must admit this is the first time i've ever heard of anyone doing this.

I have no idea what will happen now, others maybe able to advise you further. I wish you good luck.

I think the fact that what you said in the letter is true is irrelevant.

They will either investigate and potentially prosecute you for deliberate fraud or simply reject your application. Which one they choose is anyone's guess.

    Fraud
    Offence against the Medical Act
And also likely to result in being removed by your GP for break down of relationship

    You'll be sent down.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.
  • It is likely that you will be called in for an interview by the fraud team.

I think it would be a good idea to get an 'actual' letter from your GP, about your medical condition.

You can show the interviewer this 'actual' letter, and maybe they will take it into consideration, in relation to your claim that your medical history is as stated in the false letter.
  • Depends how you wrote the letter. If you faked the GP surgery letter heading and doctors signature that would be deception and it serious. They probably won’t look much further into your illness. You GP will probably know about the deception and will most likely take you off their books. It was very silly thing to do.
  • Why on earth would you do such a thing? Didn't you think they'd check it was a real document?

You've now thrown into doubt everything you wrote down on the form unless it was backed up with genuine evidence.

Who knows what will happen (other than the clear likelihood that your PIP application will be rejected).

I'd be inclined to apologise to the GP, and get a copy of your medical records, in case you do face a fraud charge.
Do you have / had a CPN? Have you ever been sectioned? Have you experienced a mental health crisis in the past?
These may possibly be seen as mitigating circumstances.
Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.
  • Did the face to face assessment actually take place and then the assessor made this statement? Why would they waste an appointment if they knew it was fraudulent before the face to face started?
    I'm Ever hopeful!

  • If you have 'faked a GP letter' as you say, and they have found out, It will definitely cast doubts and send alarm bells ringing about your honesty in how your disability affects you and everything that you have put down in your claim form.

I am guessing that your file will be returned from the Medical Centre to a DWP Case Manager who may refuse your claim for PIP and close your file/claim.

As mentioned before, they may even take further action against you regarding fraud.

What a silly thing to do!
