I am a great fan of Michael Moseley as are my GP and my diabetic nurse.

I follow his low carb suggestions and with this and occasional fasting days I have lost 35 lbs since September and my 3 month blood sugar results (Hb1Ac) dropped drastically. If I can keep this up they will start reducing my diabetes meds.

The link for the tour only had his Australian tour on it.
  • Congratulations on your huge weight loss.
The link was applicable to his UK tour when posted.
  • Thought i'd bump this thread back up as I'm just about to start the Fast 800 and wondered if anyone else was currently trying it or thinking of doing so? I bought the book ages ago but didn't do anything with it. I also used to do the original 5:2 back when it was 500 calories but haven't for a few years. Now with the obligatory lockdown weight still creeping on I feel the need to do something about it! Would be great to know if anyone out there is on it at the same time, thought it could be a good place to share the ups and downs! If there's another thread for this I do apologise, please feel free to direct me to the right place or move me on *rofl*
  • Hi Twirly, I'm contemplating trying this out - how are you getting on so far? Like you the obligatory lockdown weight has crept on and I really want to get back to a healthy weight range. BMI currently 31 ish. Either that or I need to get taller!
  • I’ve give been doing this for the last 10 days or so and it’s going well.
tbh, once you get used to restricting yourself, it doesn’t matter really if it’s 800 calories or 1200 (as I have done in the past) it just becomes ‘this is what I have’. Hopefully that makes sense!
Obviously, it’s early days, but I’m hopeful....
  • I would love to join this thread.
  • Weight wise, 2 shakes and one evening meal worked well for me a few years ago but lockdown and injury helped pile it back on.  Now blood sugars are pre-diabetic so started it again and already lost 7 lbs.  Only complaint is the Fast 800 shakes are so expensive, keep being tempted by cheaper options but not sure I could trust any others.   Any thoughts on that?  Big tip though, don't give up if you break it one day/time, just remember you're going in the right direction.

  • Have you looked at Exante?
Vast variety of shakes, soups and bars etc.
Contain all essential nutrients and they always have special offers on.
  • Thanks @takethemon, I went and looked at Exante, but decided I'd rather have the higher fats and lower carbs, and the 'all natural ingredients' of the Fast 800 shakes, so it looks like i'll just be digging deep and paying up. 🙂.

OH and I use MyProtein meal replacement shakes (their normal 200 cal ones, not the diet ones).  They taste nice, are well-priced (we wait for good offers), have good nutrient levels and keep us full for several hours.  We tried several brands but these are the only ones we actually enjoy.

I agree that the diet is easy once you get into it.  We lost 2 stone each doing it for 8 weeks earlier this year and we have easily maintained our losses.  We have just started the fast 800 again as we still have more weight to lose.
