Declined mobile contract

I applied for a new mobile phone contract online, got emails saying it was confirmed and I had been accepted. Received my brand new phone on Wednesday, put the SIM card in and was unable to send txts, or receive calls. gave them a call and was told the phone had not been activated yet, give it a couple of hrs. Gave it 2 days to phone back to be told the provider has declined the credit and they want their phone back. How can they send emails saying I have been accepted then decided no we want the phone back. Can they do that?

Check the terms and conditions, generally the answer is yes, they can and often you’ve also agreed to pay full cash price for the handset if you don’t return it.

Presumably you bought through a 3rd party, and not an actual provider. Were the emails from the 3rd party?

Return the phone and get a sim only deal plus a sim free phone, save yourself some money.

Some third parties seem to be getting ahead of themselves in sending out devices these days.
