No timer on my central heating thermostat - Is installation a big or expensive job?

Happy New Year guys!

My thermostat for the central heating doesn't have a timer on.
I'ld like one so I can time it to warm rooms up at specific times ie before I get up.

I will not bother if it's too expensive.

What am I looking at to get a timer installed? Which timer do you recommend?

What type of heating do you have ? If gas the timer is usually a separate device or on the boiler itself, the thermostat then links through it.

Sounded like they wanted a programmable thermostat to me, not a simple on/off switch. I originally used a simple Honeywell thermostat like this one:

Piece of cake to install, just take off the old thermostat and put this one in it's place.

^ is that one a t-stat? Looks like a programmer only?

Having the ability to control your heating better will pay for itself in less that a year I would have thought.

As molerat indicates, most thermostats are separate from timers.

It would be useful if you could confirm which type of heating you have (gas, electric etc), but there ought to be a cost-effective solution.

I stumbled on a reasonable WiFi stat on tlc today.
Not checked it against the usual stuff yet.

You are quite right, it looks very similar to one I used to have at first glance.

I guess it was a CM901 (1 day) or CM907 (7 day). I have a CM907 it works well.

do watch out for live mains from the boiler on the existing wiring.

THIS will do what you want and easy 2 wire install so you use the existing wires com and switch live for connection from existing stat

You might as well get Internet connected more flexible for similar money to a cheap programmable stat

I'd be really surprised if there is not a timer for the (HW and) CH somewhere already.

OP needs to have a good look round the system before deciding that buying a programmable thermostat makes good sense.
