No timer on my central heating thermostat - Is installation a big or expensive job?

You definitely can get thermostats with timers built in.
Does your heating system not have a controller?
Also you need to know if your thermostat is the type that is a mains switch, it will have a thick electrical cable, like a ringmain cable.
Or is it a signal type thermostat and has a cable more like a telephone/alarm cable?Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
I agree wth the OP's thinking.
Overnight we run cool, a quick boost just before getting up, cool for most of the day and depending upon time of year and day of week warmer late afternoon and evening.
A simple stat or stats even coupled with a programmer will not do that.
Not everybody has or wants to use the internet to control the temperature. A cheap programmble timer then fits the bill.
Not a recommendation but this one is typical of what can be found https://www.heatingcontrolsonline.co.uk/programmable-thermostats-c-21_31.html/hardwired-programmable-thermostats.html/avansa-2007-programmable-thermostat.html

This would've been great but my budget is lower.getmore4less wrote: »I stumbled on a reasonable WiFi stat on tlc today.
Not checked it against the usual stuff yet.

CM901 is £70 and CM907 is over £100
This is £15 https://www.heatingcontrolsonline.co.uk/programmable-thermostats-c-21_31.html/hardwired-programmable-thermostats.html/avansa-2007-programmable-thermostat.html
It seems prices vary a fair bit.I guess it was a CM901 (1 day) or CM907 (7 day). I have a CM907 it works well.
do watch out for live mains from the boiler on the existing wiring.0 -

If they don't cost much more I'm very open to an internet connected one.
Can't find this anywhere http://www.fiammagiro.com/en/product/remote-panel-secura8000 -
Excellent for the price £15!! :money:Heedtheadvice wrote: »I agree wth the OP's thinking.

The boilers here look exactly like it. Might be C but not sure if it's the BP-L or C. Fiamma electric combi boiler. http://www.fiammagiro.com/en/products https://www.gumtree.com/p/heating-fireplaces/electric-combi-boiler-12kw-fiamma/1281127718
One can adjust water and heating temp on the boiler but thermostat is the basic circular dial in the hall way. No timer.
Also, the water coming out of the kitchen and wash hand basin is/can be very hot but the shower isn't very hot these days. What can I do about this please? The pressure is fine, the needle is one 1.
Thanks again.

Probably the shower thermostatic valve is scaled up. Descale or replace. This is on the basis that it was OK in the past.
You can then turn down the DHW set temp.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I guess I need to call a heating engineer? It worked ok until recently. Only moved in In August but in the last few weeks it's not been as hot.
I just noted it appears in the manual one can turn on a comfort switch for the shower. I'll try to post the link but it appears the links in my post above didn't go through.
Pgs 7,14, 20,24 are most relevant but hard to understand re setting the comfort control I might've pressed the J5 & J6 (which activates Comfort Control) as I recall the shower symbol flash. http://www.electricboilerscompany.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/elektra-c-015-he-2-teler-manuale-d-istruzioni-e-uso-gb.pdf
"FUNCTION ECONOMY / COMFORT OF SANITARY
In ECO mode in standby condition is not activated any resistance of the primary heat exchanger.
When COMFORT mode is active in standby condition the primary heat exchanger temperature
is maintained in order to ensure a prompt response of the sanitary.
The primary heat exchanger is maintained at a temperature equal to the DHW set point plus
a differential temperature set by parameter N°7."
