Looking to switch Energy Supplier

My wife was ill-advised when signing up with e-on and set up a Direct Debit and now accrued up to £781 in debt with them when they never contacted us to say we weren't paying enough DD.
Now being out of our 1 Year Fixed Rate I'm taking over looking for an energy supplier and looking for ways to save money in on my bills and energy efficiency using Immersion Heater for our Hot Water Only. We have Electrical paneled radiators in the property which are rarely turned on.
Thanks in Advance

Hello Schizoid007 and welcome to the Forums.
Already some excellent advice on here - thanks all. It sounds like the Direct Debit was set too low when your wife first opened the account. I suspect we would've either looked at past usage at the property or based the amount on the information we were given at the time. As others have said, these forecasts are estimates and can be affected by different circumstances. For example, if the previous occupier didn't have the immersion heater on for as long, this would've had an impact.
If possible, using the immersion less will help reduce your usage/bills. There are other tips to help save money by saving energy on our website. Have a look at the Saving Energy pages. Might help.
We review Direct Debits every quarter but will only change them at the mid-point and annual reviews. At the other times, we let you know if we think the payments need to change but leave it up to you to make any alterations. We put a message on the bills to advise. If you've an online account and have opted for paperless billing, we'll email to let you know the bill is ready to view.
Online customers can take more control of their payments through the Direct Debit Manager on our website. As others have said, pop in meter readings regularly and check the balance or produce a bill. If it looks like too much debit or credit is building up, you can increase or lower the payments to suit. By up to 20 per cent (with readings) or up to 5 per cent (no readings).
You're right. Energy Plan is a variable tariff with no exit fees. It's our standard product and there are cheaper options available both with us and with the other suppliers. Pop your usage in kWh on to the Price Comparison sites. These will show what's available.
We'll be happy to look at including the current debit balance into your existing arrangement and spreading this over a longer period. Might make the monthly payments a little more manageable.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction Schizoid007. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.
