HMV Refunds - or lack of...

My son bought a record player Online from HMV. Sadly it's faulty (lever arm doesn't stay on record).
I read on main Money Saving Expert page that the Administrators are allowing refunds in Store (provided that a fault is proven) even for items purchased on line.
However I called my local store this morning and was told this was utter rubbish.
I assume store staff have not been communicated to from those above...
Is the information that was posted definitely correct and where do I stand now?
Obviously don't want to risk returning via post if there is an option of refund in store. Thank you

OP, how was the record player paid for and how much did it cost?

You may have an avenue of chargeback or Section 75.
  • Stores have been been instructed to give no refunds under any circumstances, with one exception. At an absolute last resort (customer becoming aggressive etc.) refunds can be given on faulty products. That's for items purchased in store though, website returns have never been accepted for refunds in store, only exchanges. Any store that has returned an online purchase has knowingly gone against these rules and it will probably flag somewhere. Stores have been advised to inform customers manufacturers can refund faulty technology items. Or you can return it to the website.

    This is direct information.

The manufacturers have no liability whatsover they are not the vendor .

This article talks about HMV honouring gift cards but as far as I can see says nothing about refunds.

Is there a balance weight on the arm that needs adjusting
  • Record player was £100 paid by debit card.
I have emailed bank asking if it is covered if we did chargeback but as we still have goods I doubt it...
The info was actually on this main website...if you type HMV in search bar it says...

If you need to return a faulty item, you would usually be entitled to a full refund within 30 days of purchase, or a repair or replacement after that - regardless of whether you bought it in-store or online.

A KPMG spokesperson told us it'll exchange faulty goods but alternatively you can still get a refund "if necessary". Faulty items can be returned in-store whether they were bought in-store or online - if you bought online, given the current uncertainty you're probably best heading to your nearest store anyway

Sorry thought I had replied after other message.

I'm not sure about lever arm - when we re
rested something on if it - it worked!

    Not sure if that helps?
