Personally I would rather buy this 4GB https://uk.webuy.com/product-detail?id=smemlap4gb200&categoryName=memory-laptop-ddr2&superCatName=computing&title=4-gb-pc6400-ddr2-800mhz-200-pin-memory

Then either you will have a 4+1gb or a 4+2gb machine. Also you can remove the 1GB and make it into a 4+4gb machine.

    Erm....I can't say that I agree. £6.49 for 4 GB of RAM( 2 x 2 GB) or £29.50 for 5 GB (4 x 1 GB)

That is not a good suggestion.

As I illustrated earlier, SSD will make all of the difference. Upgrade RAM only if you usage(Task Manager) indicates you are utilising more than current physical RAM.

By the sounds of it, 4 GB of RAM is ample in conjunction with SSD. There is no justification in spending £23 more to get an extra 1 GB of RAM or £27.50 to get 2 GB extra or £52,50 more to get 4 GB extra.

In the days of mechanical HDD, it was the only option. Now, it is just not necessary unless you are already exceeding physical RAM.

You'll need a couple of these in which to store the old HDD; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/External-2-5-HDD-Enclosure-USB-SATA-Hard-Drive-Black-Caddy-Case-for-Laptop-PC/263538379788

This allows you to plug it into the new laptop to retrieve any data and also to just use it as external storage.
What you don't want to do is to simply clone the contents of the old hard drives to the new SSD.
Always make a new start. A clean install of Windows to the SSD.

It has two slots, with currently 2GB (that's all I know)... So the idea was for 2 x 2GB...

    These are it's exact specifics:

    Dell 2009 - Studio1555
    Commodity: MEMORY
    Part Desc.: DIMM,2GB,800,256X64,8K,200

The above links to what I'm told is a compatible memory stick for that purpose...

    With Kind Regards

    I got a 500GB Samsung 860 EVO when I did my laptop recently. (Cost about £90). I didn't feel the need for an all-singing, all-dancing, super-duper SSD. :)

That is an all-singing, all-dancing super-duper SSD, unless you have a PCIe connection for NVMe.
I paid £69 for the same.

PRO is for critical applications. Not necessary for the average consumer device. Crucial MX500 is as good as any average consumer device will need.

Essentially, I don't currently have that Dell 1555 with me to open the back and look at the memory stick,
hence why I settled for pasting in what I could actually state about it...

I'm assuming it will contain a 1 x 2GB Memory Stick. This leads to my next question...

Do the current memory stick, and the one to be added (to make it 2 x 2GB) have to be 'compatible' in order for it to work, or must they be from the same manufacturer?
For instance, I can combine Sandisk and Crucial Memory sticks, or would that create a problem for the laptop?

Lastly, that will be a very useful video. I'm thinking if I can find similar videos detailing how to replace the SSDs in both the Dell 1555 and HP 650 (in addition to the Dell 1555 extra Memory Stick), I should do it myself, if careful?

    With Kind Regards

Don't assume. Get the Service Tag from the underside and enter it here; https://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1

But for the third time, just buy this; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Memory-Ram-Laptop-DDR2-PC2-6400-6400S-800-MHz-200-Pin-SODIMM-Non-ECC-1-8V-2x-Lot/222631061314

The Dell Studio 1555 will take you a few minutes to do by yourself. Just don't lose the screws.

    The HP ProBook 650 similarly.

The HP ProBook allows for three different types of storage. Mechanical 2.5" HDD, 2.5" SSD and M.2 SSD.
What kind of drive is currently installed? What is the capacity?

You should create installation media before you replace the drives, as there may be steps to be taken, dependent on which operating system you choose to install.

Have you ordered caddies for the old hard drives?
