And if this is another way for the police to gain more funds without using their own resources I will be making that clear in any way I can.

The money goes to central coffers not to the police, assuming you mean a fine of course.

The fee for a speed awareness course usually goes to a private company.

Oooh, I expect they're really worried.

There's a lovely irony in your disdain for "untrained pensioners", coming as it does from a keyboard warrior.

They are police trained, and they do have police-provided and -calibrated equipment.

They know exactly how it works already, and really don't need somebody who's in a huff because they've been caught to explain it to them. Community Speedwatch schemes are very well established, run all over the country, and have been doing for well over a decade.

My intentions was always to fill the form in I was just shocked at the type of response you get from them now, if they are thinking of prosecution then I will be questioning things, to be honest I drive through this village every single day of the year, I have seen them before but hardly ever pay attention as I have no need (I’m usually keeping to the correct speed limit), there is normally more than the one, minimum is 3 elderly residents standing by the side of the road. I cannot say or not if I was exceeding the speed limit or not but will hold my hands up if I was but not to an untrained pensioner with or without the correct equipment or evidence. Thanks for your replies though.

As it stands the evidence suggests you were speeding. If it is in fact a nip you have why not fight it? I'm sure the pensioner would convince the Magistrates his 20 minutes of training with the gun makes him competent.

Most of them will have police provided equipment but this isn't guaranteed to be the case.
The speed detection devices do have to be government approved but speedwatch schemes can be self funded in which case they can purchase their own equipment for which they are also responsible for the calibration of.

And if they are self funding can you see the calibration being out of date?

... who in turn pay the police £45 a time. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/10/20/police-net-extra-12-million-speed-awareness-courses/
