I currently have Windows 8.1 installed on my desk-top. I'm thinking of getting Windows 10. It costs £119.00 which is a little expensive for an upgrade I think. Should I go for it? Or are there other options worth considering? Thanks.

No doubt someone will be along in a short while (if he's not holidaying again!) to tell you of the free way to do it ...
Then someone else will tell you to install Linux! :rotfl:0 -
Windows 8.1 was dire but at £119 to upgrade I'd probably stick with it.
What benefits would you actually get by upgrading?
How old is your laptop and what spec is it? You might be better off putting £119 towards a replacement that comes with windows 10 already installed.0 -
Read How to Directly Clean Install Windows 10 without having to Upgrade First by the inimitable Shawn Brink. You might have to be a bit techie, though...0

Contrary to popular belief and what Microsoft will tell you the "free upgrade" window that apparently ended years ago is still open and still works. Take advantage of that.

Just install windows 10 and use the win 8 serial.
Terrible idea though, windows 10 is a PITA.
I disabled the updates in windows 10, but each update they get more aggressive in preventing you from stopping the updates.
Why is windows update linked to the printer services?
Why does windows 10 want to access my NAS box when my PC is idle and stops the instant I open task manager to try and see whats accessing it?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Alternative approach...got a spare hard disk drive?
1. make note of current windows key (e.g. Belarc)
2. download Windows 10 at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10
Read from Create Windows 10 installation media
(an 8GB USB stick is needed for this)
3. swap existing hard drive (one that includes "C:") for spare hard disk
4. clean install Windows 10 to spare hard disk, using the key you noted at step 1.
If it works - great - if it doesn't work - buy a license for much less than £119.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -

The 'Upgrade' to windows 10 pretty much killed off my laptop, no driver support from Dell causes graphics issues and touchpad problems. If i could have reverted to Win7 i would still be using it now. I would advise to research if your model has any of these issues.
My work laptop is Windows 10 and after all the new junk has been disabled, its basically the same as Windows 10 for the average user. They have tried hard to make everything more simple in the GUI but the reality (in my experience) is that it is so inconsistent that there is no benefit to the average user0
