    Try again...
Lovely morning here. No rain forecast. Got an even better list for today which starts with sorting the tomatoes and ends with creamy tortellini and a nice Pinot Noir

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Suffolk Lass:- that's what i call pressure having to be ready for 'Village Opening' Good Luck, I hope all goes well.

Unrecordings:- made me laugh and it reminded me of digging our pond at the last house. MrZ, not one for doing things by hand, decided to use the digger and tractor. One week later the pond was measured at 20yds x 40yds in the shape of a teardrop x 14 foot deep in the centre. (I always thought it would be a good place to hide a body should he misbehave). We planted it but never stocked it but when we moved 12yrs later it had newts, frogs, and fish. Coots nested on the side, a couple of mallards were resident, herons visited and one day I even saw a cormorant drying it's wings on the side. Surprising what nature does by itself.

Saw the surgeon yesterday 10wks on from my op. I'm going in the right direction and the next knee is already booked in for Jan/Feb 2020. He laughed when I said that MrZ thinks I walk like a penquin - we need a new pond!!!

Just watered today and started doing the netting to keep out the rabbits. Time for dinner and I've made some meringues to help the first few strawberries stretch so we can have them with dinner

Got a lot done today: Swapped the double glazed unit for the mesh lid on my cold frame, put 1x Nimbus and 3x Gardener's Delight tomatoes in growpots. I've some Christmas Grape that I sowed just over three weeks ago that were way out of date, and haven't germinated but given the cold weather I'll leave them maybe another week before I abandon them. I also sowed (a little late) some chard, and earthed up a small bed of potatoes. I was going to sow some beans in pots, but might put them straight into the ground instead, when that ground is prepared

Really busy day for me trying to catch up. I planted 30 tomato plants into their final position. 18 into grow pots and the rest in flower buckets. Potted on 24 chilli and pepper plants. They still look quite small but were ready for bigger pots.

Planted 3 cucumbers in final position to go with the 3 courgette already in. Cucumbers have a little plastic coldframe over until they get too big.

Moved my 14 dahlia tubs into my plastic greenhouse. This was no mean feat as lots of steep steps between my glass greenhouse and plastic one. I hope to get them in the ground next week as I haven't had time this week.

I have lots of flowers in cell trays ready to go in the ground so will have a busy planting week next week.

I was knackered after all that so the sausage sandwiches for dinner went down a treat!

That,s the problem with gardening at this time of year. There's so much to do and one gets so focused on getting chores comp, eyed that you don't notice how tired you are until you stop. Its too late then !

Agreed Primrose. I rarely eat meat and especially processed meat and always go on at the kids to be more veggie but at that moment a salad just wouldn't cut it. Ironic as I am putting so much effort into growing the healthy stuff..

Whilst weeding around my raspberries, the bees were buzzing about doing their stuff. I find them fascinating and after watching them going from flower to flower in the strawberry beds, I realised I should hold off as long as possible before netting them to let the bees perform their magic.

    /QUOTE]

I'm totally fascinated by the bees too, I love having a coffee outside and watching them buzzing all over a fast growing plant that I have with blue/purple flowers on (that I can't remember the name of!).

I had quite a busy day yesterday and decided to continue experimenting. I'm thinking the worst that happens is they can die and end up in the compost :) I bought some pea plants, which my grandmother was always amazing at growing so I'm hoping I can grow them too. I potted out the mint and basil stems that I've had in a glass of water while they grew roots. The mint looks okay but basil is less impressive, I think I left it in water too long. Planted some thyme seeds on the window sill. And planted some purple tree collard in a pot that I ordered online after seeing my favourite YouTuber grow it, so I'm looking forward to seeing what that does :D And we had lettuce out of the garden with supper :D The very first thing I've grown......

I'm intrigued by all the talk about tomatoes...I love tomatoes...I don't have a greenhouse though, is it possible to grow them outside?

Rachel. I've grown tomatoes very successfully outdoors for over 40 years. I don,t know in which part of the country you live in but they ripen earlier in southern areas.

Give them the sunniest spot possible, provide them with a firm stake to grow up which you can tie them to as the upright varieties grow up to 6 feet tall and keep them well watered in dry weather. You can plant them out from around now as cold or frosty nights will kill young plants. Feed weekly with a liquid fertiliser like Tomorite once the fruits begin to form.

If you grow tumbling varieties in the ground or in patio pots don,t pinch out the side shoots as they will grow more flowers and tomatoes.

Give it a go! Am sure you will be pleased with the results.
