We have the exact same issue but the cat is from 2 doors up and I can't launch it that far LOL

I need to fill in any gaps between plants in the border so there's no nice prime bum planting space. Cheap bedding plants here I come....

I used the cuttings from the rosemary bush over winter in the front garden, worked a treat.

I'm now back in action after having a new knee. I think I last posted in Feb just before my op.
It's still a bit hard getting around so I'm only doing what I can manage which at the moment is mainly seed sowing and potting on.

I've managed to do a couple of beds outside but they were raised so easier than on the flat. The greenhouse is bursting with seedlings both veg and flowers. I've not bought many seeds this year as I'm determined to use all the freebies and left overs from the last few years. I've had an idea of netting the outside of the greenhouse and growing all my free sweetpea seeds against it - just for cutting - the idea is I wont have to shade it later in the year and the downstairs loo may benefit as well.

I know it's frowned on but I think I'll have to resort to weedkiller to do the paths and areas not in use.

Now for a cup of tea and a catch up with what everyone is growing this year, that will keep me busy for the rest of the morning

Thanks for the suggestions (unrecordings too).

No blanket unfortunately, but I do have some gardening/horticultural fleece, so might try to wrap them in that. I have never used fleece before? I assume it can stay on during the day and the light will get through okay?

Bev. I used fleece last summer in the extreme heatwave to cover my outdoor potted pepper and chilli plants because the sun was so hot it was scorching the leaves and the skin on the ripening fruits. It was fine for this purpose and yes, the light will still get through OK..

I am so excited. Managed to get us a half allotment at the end of last year. So came January, started working on creating some beds. Before, I managed some lettuce, beetroot and radishes in the back garden of our rental. Now that we are homeowners, the back garden is tiny, but it ours and home to the flowers.

I have worked over not even half the plot, which has been left alone for 6months before we got it.

    I got:
    shallots
    lettuce
    radishes
    carrots
    beetroot
    broadbeans
    first earlies, in the ground.
    And seedlings:
    2 types of tomaotes
    courgette
    peppers,
    chilli
    loads of herbs...
    and sunflowers and nastursiums.

Unfortunately, was worried about the front room being too hot. So all the seedlings went leggy without direct sunlight and toppled over. Luckily only planted it a week and half ago, so will have another go this weekend.

It was recommended to me by one of the allotment neighbours to put plastic/tarpaulin over the rest of the plot to prepare it for next year. I'm not sure about keeping the water out. Is that the correct way? Got some weed suppressing fabric was planning on using once I cleared most of the grass and weeds. Any opinions?

Got loads of fruit bushes on plot too. Tried newspaper and bark on one section after cutting away most of the grass, worked like a charm. 2metres down, 15metres to go!

Why is it that cats never seem to want to foul their own nests ??
I don,t blame you for returning it, especially if they're fouling a vegetable patch but probably bettter to do it after dark !

My cat is probably the only one in existence who is an exception to that rule! She will only go in our garden or litter tray. Quite often she comes in from the garden to use her tray :rotfl:

Congratulations on your new kingdom! I too have half a plot and due to old bones I do cover my plot up over the winter to keep the weeds at bay. Last week a lottie neighbour kindly rotavated it for me and a friend helped me to put a polytunnel frame up. I have since considered how much of the rest of the plot I can plant up or sow quite quickly and have decided to cover up the rest with weed suppressant - I use Mypex which is expensive but is water permeable and should last many seasons if you blow-torch the cut edges to stop them fraying. Mypex is made of plastic strips which are a complete nuisance if they are allowed to shred. I bought mine from an allotment shop but if you don't have one closeby then you can get from Ebay. Just don't get it on the roll because it's difficult to deal with unless flat. Good luck with your task and remember that Rome wasn't built in a day!
