home insurance cancelled - what now?!

I had my home insurance cancelled after it was renewed, essentially because I had made a claim for a window that fell out.
I now need to get new home insurance however one of the assumptions is that you have never had home insurance cancelled which I now can't say!
Does this literally last forever or is it like car insurance when an accident lasts for 3 or 5 years?
It doesn't seem fair that because I've had to claim I can now never get 'normal' house insurance?!
Thank you.

Why exactly was it cancelled - it's unusual for a policy to be cancelled because you made a claim. Is there something about the claim that they believed to be 'dodgy'?All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

I don't understand, I've hadclaims on my insurance and while the insurance may have increased, it's never been cancelled. Did you lie when renewals came round and did not declare a claim?
You have to declare a claim for as long as a company asks the question. The company I'm with at the moment asks for previous claims for last three years. A previous company asked for last five years.
You now have to declare an insurance company cancelled a policy. This will make it very expensive for you to get cover.0 -
No I never lied. They told me that it was cancelled because of the claim.
The window fell out of the bathroom and through the car port below0 -
Something's not right. Sounds like you need to make an official complaint and ensure the cancellation is removed from your record.0

Insurance is generally cancelled for non disclosure, non payment or fraud. Its just not cancelled because someone makes a valid claim. That would be unfair. If that has happened to you and theres nothing more in the 'essentially' part of the reasoning for your cancelation you nee to put a complain in with the company and when they offer you an unsatisfactory outcome take the complaint to the financial ombudsman.0 -
There's more to this OP - you're not telling the full story...
Why exactly did they cancel? They will have given a reason. When you claimed for your window did you tell them something that was not 100% accurate about the circumstances? All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
So do you mean they actually cancelled the policy mid-term (which would not happen poorly because I'd a claim)? Or did they simply not offer you a renewal price when the policy cane to an end, because you no longer meet their underwriting criteria (which could be because of the claim, most likely combined with some other factors)?
If it's the latter then it's not a cancelled policy and did not have to be declared to other insurers.0 -
so I rang the insurers to get some clarity on the situation and it turns out it's not a cancelled policy - phew!
The policy was renewed initially and then they contacted me to say that Legal and General would not underwrite the policy as it was an "unacceptable risk" (becuase of the claim) they then looked for another underwriter but the cost was astronomical so we refused so technically I cancelled not them.
So it doesn't go against me hurrah!
Thank you for your help everyone, glad I checked it out.0 -
There is something a bit odd about a window just falling out.
What actually happened?
Yes - we know it fell out, but why/how did it could to be in such bad shape it just fell out?
Was there a storm?0 -

Or did you renew and forgot to tell them about the previous claim?0
