DPD Driver hit my car

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to get some advice A DPD driver reversed into my parked car and broke my front bumper and external temp sensor. He asked to pay for the damages and has claimed he has bought a bumper for the replacement. I was wondering how long I have to claim to in case he is just trying to pass this.

Any advice would be great!

Is this a windup.....he's bought a bumper but is he going to spray paint it,fit it,fit new sensor and check everything

I presume he is a self employed driver and not employed directly by DPD

If your car is almost new or very good condition go via his or your insurance company and save yourself a load of hassle

Your insurers ask you to report any incidents as soon as possible, it's normally set out within their terms & conditions. It's mainly due to accuracy of record keeping though. The longer someone leaves it to report something, the more likely they are to get details wrong.

You could explain the delay though. Ie waiting for other party to provide their documentation. As long as you are still able to provide the correct date, time, location and reg of the other vehicle, proof of damage and give them a statement as to what happened - they should consider your claim still.
  • It is looking like it will go that way but as it was near Xmas I tried to be understanding

It is a 57 plate, 60k on the clock. Excellent condition no marks on any panel. ( Before Accident )

So could be a write off if you go through the insurance.

Really? What would happen if that happened?

It would be a financial write off because using genuine parts and going through a bodyshop it would cost more than 50% of the value of the vehicle to repair.

In that scenario you could offer to buy the car off the insurance company. You'd get a lower payout but you could then use the money to go to an independent bodyshop yourself to get it fixed or buy the parts off a breakers or Ebay and pay someone to fit them.
