Iphone SE: contract, sim or payg?

Im after a new phone, fancy the Iphone SE (already have an older iphone, want a small phone), currently on PAYG. Rarely make any calls, but use phone for internet and texting. Currently with EE, via old orange sim.
Would prefer to stick with EE, but whats the best option for buying new phone. Would i be best on a contract, buying sim only or do they still do PAYG.
Would prefer 1GB + of data.
Been looking online but just getting confused as to best way to go
looked on carphone warehouse website and dont even seem to do ee on sim only, is this possible?
thanks

The SE is obsolete, buying a phone outright is almost always better value. The shops/networks will love to sell you a 2 year "contract" where you pay for the phone on finance over 24 months. There are variations on the theme, but in general shopping for SIM only and having your own unlocked phone will give you a lot more flexibility and more money in your pocket.
The network always worth a price comparison is Three, check out their SIM only contract prices. EE and the rest are usually more expensive.0 -

The iPhone SE is not obsolete, it is still a supported model (and will likely remain so for as long as the 6s with which it shares much of it’s specification).
List of obsolete iPhone models can be seen at:

I have the SE and whilst my contract is now up, Im just going to stay with it as its a fantastic little phone for the money and I really cant see the point of spending hundred more for a more up to date iPhone as like the OP, I just use it for surfing, emails, snaps etc0

Try buying one new from Apple... obsolete definition = no longer produced.
Old phones like the SE are still supported by software updates, they were in production from March 2016 until Autumn 2018.
I have one, but wouldn’t rush to buy one as they are either old stock or second hand.0 -

Except they are still produced and supplied to the other retail channels (just like the 6s is). The networks for example, still get weekly deliveries of the SE from Apple.====0 -

I looked at other phones but i like the iphone and dont want the new massive types, i dont need one of the all singing all dancing new phones costing 6-700 or something like that.
its really a matter of cost. whats the difference in payg and sim only. i suspect ill be paying well over the odds to be on contract, but im struggling to see many other offers0 -
Both Tesco and Carphone Warehouse have the SE 32gb, the larger GB ones are basically sold out everywhere0

As long as you aren't still just paying the original contract and have kept the phone but switched to a cheaper sim only deal?
Well that was the plan
My SE is playing silly beggers, my own fault as I got a cheap screen fix and its played up ever since. My original plan was to get a replacement of that but there are no 128GB available and infant O2 are out of all stock of them
So I haggled and got the 7 on the same monthly payment plan as I was on :-)
O2 are pretty good to deal with over the phone. The shops have no leeway but the phone operatives do0 -
