IKEA does some really cheap ones
  • If you want something decent that you will use a lot look at getting a proper desk from a second hand office furniture place.

If you have any offices near you that are closing you might be lucky and find one for free.

The cheap desks from Ikea and the like are OK but if you are going to use it for 8 hours a day a proper desk is worth the extra.

  • Mine at home is made from four Ikea legs and an Ikea surface (150cmx75cm), cost me less than £40 total. It's last 8 years so far and works just as well as the £200 desk I have at work.

  • If you have access to a largeish estate or hatchback ebay is the cheapest option, look for auctions with a 99p start, sort by distance from you..

I picked up an Ikea Galant (now discontinued but IMO a much better desk than it's replacement the Bekant) in good condition last year for £1.20.

I have an Ikea desk... well it's two of their desk drawer sets and a table top, plus a shelf on kitchen unit legs to make the monitor stand (I'm not sure they show this idea on their website but they did it in the Croydon store). It works very well and was cheap. I can't see how buying a 'proper' desk from somewhere more expensive would be any better - what is a desk other than a top and drawers?!

    Snap.
    Great minds, and all that.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Have you popped a request on Freecycle? Often there will be people looking to get rid of old desks (or tables suitable for computers) - if you want a specific type or style then Freecycle is not the route for you but can be great if you're not fussy with how something looks!

    Sounds like this one: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/desks/desk-computer-desks/adils-linnmon-table-white-spr-09929641/

Ultimately you haven't really explained what you're after. Who will use the desk? Will it be for a laptop, computer, monitor, printer, etc? How long will the desk be used for? Do you need room for papers and writing?
